Since the Umnitza headlights are taking forever to produce a prototype, I decided to make my own clear corners. I'm not done with this side yet, but close. Sorry for the crappy Razr pictures, I don't have my digital camera cable. I will post more pics whith progress.

what did you use to cut out the clean piece from? From what I remember the stock piece is curvature.

What material is it that you're using? Where'd you buy it? How're you making it fit the curving of the headlight housing?

Details, details, we want details!

Ok so I finished them tonight, but the headlight housing won't be done until hopefully Thursday. We still need to have them painted azure pearl, and I need to install the demon eyes.
Here are some pics:

that is awesome. You could deffinetly make some money if you had people mail you theirs and just kept switching out for a quick turn around.

I have an azure pearl and I know I would send you my setup to have the deamon eyes, housing painted, and clear corners done.

Lol, thanks for the comments.... The eye lid thing is off because when they get painted, we are painting that chrome stuff underneath it. When I took those pics I was to lazy to put it back on. Don't worry when they're done they will be back on.

I'm doing something very similar to my headlights soon. Installing angel eyes, painting the housing Super White, etc. I'm still planning it out though.

My solution to the ugly orange corners is to paint the reflectors white as well, and then use this stuff on them: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/nitelites.html

Also got some of this: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/illuminite.html but I'm not sure if it would be legal, since the glow is blue, and can't be turned off. I'm going to test it out and see just how bright and how blue it is. All sorts of uses come to mind, hehe.

i had a feeling that I would get in trouble with the cops... That's why I bought a set of amber LED's from jlevi. I just keep em in the center console. If an officer ever decides to pull me over because of them, Ill just swap them right there. I dont have to worry about popping my hood, everything under there is stock except for a radiator shroud.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

For the installation. You would first need to open your headlights and remove the orange reflector, which is just 5 little tabs. For the clear corners, they just sit right on top of the black bezel. For anyone who has opened their headlights, the stock orange ones had clips that hold them in the headlight. These are a tiny bit larger so they can sit flush with the black housing of the headlight. To keep them secure, you would just run a small bead of clear epoxy around the edge of the bezel, press the corner down and hold for a few min. Let it dry for an hour or so and your done. ***To reseal your headlights properly and not have an issue with leaking or condensation, you just need to buy a tube of black silicone, run a bead along the seal you broke and press back together. If you wanted to heat that or put that in the oven for a few min and press again once warm, that wouldn't be a bad idea.***

Don't worry man I broke a small ring the first time and then a large one the second time, all in all my left HL has been baked twice and the right one four times. I know how you feel, but they look great in the end

baking headlights seems to be a big fear for everyone...

think about it... are you really going to sit on your but for 20 minutes then go check on them?

i don't think so.
i baked a few in my time including an evo 8 pair.
just preheat your oven, take a screwdriver, and every 3-5 minutes in the beginning open and poke at the scillicone and see if its getting soft enough to pry apart, and pick out. you will be very paranoid the whole time so you wont burn your houses down i promise... <3

Has anybody thought about putting LED across the top of the lights? i could have sworn i saw this a while back... POISON you don't need anymore/new sealant, after you bake them for 20 mins and pull them apart use clear RTV for whatever you are installing EX. demon eyes or clear corners, then once thats dried(hour or so) bake them again for like 10 mins and then press them back together with the original sealant. sould be fine that way. don't know y they turned yellow though :ponder:

major thread revival!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the tc headlights without the amber reflecter and just the black housing and bulb.

I don't want to bake my headlights so I'm just thinking of using the "XB/XA method" to break the amber reflectors and take them out piece by piece; unfortunately, this dude in past thread tried that, with no avail:
http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21568&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=clear+corners&&start=0

So, has anyone modded the headlights that way? Any pictures? Does it look any good?

Thanks for the help

Just bake them. I've done it numerous times.

jiggadomino
10-18-2007, 05:52 AM
nah thats the point
no matter what you say, just bake them, dont be a _____, do it yourself, be a man
im still not gonna
cause i've seen the numerous DIYs on the forum
and the result are these melted edges that look trashy
nah no baking for me
i respect that those of you who had the balls to bake did a good job and have some unique setups

If you just remove the amber sidemarker then you will be left with an exposed bulb.

It's gonna look retarded. Anyway, I don't know what you are talking about with the melted edges. If you take due care then there is absolutely no way you will burn or melt anything. Sounds like you don't have a lot of confidence in your own abilities. You need to get the temperature right and keep an eye on the time, and you also need to put a damp towel under the headlight and make sure there is no contact with the baking sheet or the sides of the oven. I'm not a car expert by any means. I'm just a guy with an oven.

eh you know what?!

you are absolutely right, I don't have confidence in my own abilities. After screwing up on trying to paint the paint chips on my hood, screwing up my engine cover paint, and breaking the screw for my rear strut bar; my confidence on my ability in DIY stuff has dropped very low. :|

but hey i dont know what the headlight will look like without the amber reflector, cause people have been doing clear corners to get rid of the amber reflector.

Mine certainly didn't do anything like that when I baked them. It doesn't actually look like melted plastic, it looks more like excess sealant which has been squeezed out. Even if the sealant gets everywhere, it can be cleaned up with some elbow grease.

thats great, but that office lighting material that you're using tends to melts or burn a bit. it ends up looking a little yellow after a while. i wish someone would produce something similar to stock lens.

This is an ancient thread. But for the record, I am working on having something similar to the stock lens made up. I'll post info if it's a success. A couple more weeks and I might have just what you are looking for.
