hello. i tried searching for anyone who put on chains on their scion tC's 17" stock tires? i could be mistaken, but i could have sworn that when i bought my tC that the dealer had me sign a form that said that "they, the dealer, has told me that putting on tire chains for the snow will damage my car and they cannot be held responsible." did anyone else have to sign this form? has anyone put on tire chains on their tC's stock tires and had or have not had problems? i saw that people bought steelies and put chains on them, but i was really curious to see if people put chains on their stock tires and if it was safe to do it on my tC for the snow :silly: . thanks!

i put z-rated cables on my car for 3 days when i was working in mammoth and my rims are now scratched to hell. At first i couldnt go over 30 mph because the cables would expand too much and hit my fender lining. but after a while the cables adjusted themselves and i was able to drive faster. My car is lowered about 1.3 inches so thats probably why they were hitting the fender lining. if you have to put on chains i suggest trying to protect your rims somehow. Maybe putting some duct tape on your rims.

thanks for the input regulator. it's a hard decision to make. get some cables or rent a car and then deal with the hassle of buying chains/cables for that car on the trip of.

I would buy another set of tires to put on there...not worth scratching up your stock rims or aftermarket rims. Unless you live up the mountains and it requires you to drive everyday.

yeah i should have just bought two tires when i had the chance, but seeing how i'm leaving in a couple days, it's crunch time.

reagulator - did you buy the cables from a scion vendor?

http://www.vulcantire.com/chainz6_c.htm I've bought a pair of these to get me to the ski resourt but havent tryed them yet. I've got 225 45 17 snow tires on my stock rims which works for most days but on bad days it is required that you have 4wd or chains to get up the canyon. I can't stand the AUDI's and Subie's getting my fresh POW POW. The chains I got are SCC SZ133 cables. 'S' rated for low profile situations.
