People who have xBs who say it was cool when they weren't so
I've been to few of these scion car club meets and I've talked to alot of people whohave xBs. I think its funny how so many people talk about how it was cool when you didn't see so many scions around but now they're everywhere. Anybody else run into folks who say this? Or maybe share that idea?
I totally disagree. The more xbs I see on the road the happier I'll be. I got my xb in july/august of '03. I remember when it used to make my mouth hang open when I saw another xb on the road. Sure, it was cool.--If its cool to own a car that you wont be able to get parts for -that was only sold in california for about a year, and then got dropped. That's what would have happened if people didn' buy them alot, and if you didn't see them everywhere.
I'd like to see the xb be as common as these frickin' hondas that cover LA like roaches. That way I could have bought my intake for like $60- instead of $200.
I suppose the first guys in the US that bought Honda civics in the '70s thought they were pretty freakin' cool too, huh?
If you want you car to be individualized, do some modding or some body work. It's not having a car nobody else has got--it's taking a common car and making it unique, or somehow your own style.
Your thoughts?.....

That reminds me of the early days of the PT Cruiser. I got mine very early...in '00. At that time, there were very few people who owned them, and you hardly ever saw one on the road. Of course, when you did, a flash of the lights and a wave was customery. At that time, PT owners didn't but them becasue they were versatile and economical, they bought them becasue they were different They loved the unique styling. Now, since they are everywhere and DC has decontented the crap out of them and knocked the price way down, people buy them becasue they are a cheap small car.
I am not sure if the Xb will end up the same or not. We are getting ours primarily because of the styling. The fact that it's a well built, reliable and a good value is a bonus.

personally it disapoints me.. it seams to be turning into a fad like the H2 and so on.. i was one of the first people with a tC in the area mebe nation wide.. bought july 04. but now i just see them driven by anyone who says wow i need a good car at a good price.. not even caring about the people behind.. the work behind the scion.. the groups behind the cars.. or even the "scene".
No offense to anyone here, but I find modern day make/model specific car clubs laughable. Especially with the attitude many of them cop. My wife loves her Scion. Probably just as much if not more than any club member out there. I love the car too. I was even considering getting one for myself.
But everything I have seen locally from Scion specific club members is an attitude of superiority. There is no camaraderie outside of their own ranks. You see more love and respect from non-club members and non-Scion owners than you do from the Scion clubs. And the attitude these folks carry is baseless. Big deal, you bought a $15k car that was somewhat unique in the domestic auto industry! So did tens of thousands of other people. If you really needed this cheap amalgamation of metal and plastic to make you feel special, your issues go far deeper than what kind of vehicle you own.
And just like evilBOX said, if the uniqueness of driving an xB isn't enough for you any more start customizing. And I'll tell you right now that slapping on the same body kit and suspension that 1000 other people have isn't going to be enough for you. If you want to be unique, you have to do your own thing. No more off the shelf parts. But if all you care about is making your xB your own, regardless of who else bolts on the same exact pieces, more power to you.

Won't they be discontinued in a year or so? Plus, the freaking wait to get one is ridiculous. So, the numbers will always be low(relatively speaking). PT cruisers can be had anywhere, anytime. Plus if you get an RS model, than you are pretty much guaranteed uniqueness.
Or at least one something of 2200 for the RS3.

My definition of uniqueness was just meant as that. It definitely wasn't meant as being the only one of its kind, or without equal. Wait if I was in it, then it would be the only one of its kind
So it's always unique when I am in it, because I don't have a twin
this particular thread/topic is very reminiscent of THIS previous thread.
i believe that the main 'complaint' you are hearing from the 'original' owners has to do with the commonality of the vehicle -- meaning that there are more and more 'stock' Scions on the road.
Scion was/is marketed as finding 'trend setters' - it was never promoted as a common car. and therein lies the dilemma for Scion -- how do they maintain a trendy brand, but still try to meet dealer and customer demand for the product? unfortunately, limiting the # of vehicles produced does not in itself maintain a trend.

It's a pretty common ideal, owning something unique and automatically being 'part of the club' because of it. The same can be said about alot of products that are well-made, distinctive and have cult-like followings; like Vespas, Macs and Moleskine notebooks.
