THE_DON 02-28-2006, 09:55 PM Could this be a 1.8L engine that we could swap! :ponder: I mean, the Yaris does start out with an xA/xB motor...
Looks nice

Boxer_Rebellion 03-01-2006, 05:45 PM Yep that is the million dollar question...
stankubrick 03-01-2006, 05:48 PM So is this a concept or what? Are they really gonna sell these?
Tamago 03-01-2006, 05:57 PM it'll never sell in the US..
end of story
Geotpf 03-02-2006, 04:15 PM it'll never sell in the US..

Why not? I assume that's the same 1.8 liter engine that is in the Corolla XRS, Matrix XRS, Celica, and Lotus Elise. It will be a modern version of a Dodge Omni GLH (goes like hell). This thing would kick butt.
Boxer_Rebellion 03-02-2006, 05:03 PM That is the same as our platform, right? So I imagine the engine/tranny configuration would fit... From what I understand the problem with swapping the 1.8 before was not having a tranny that fit into our cars without major reworking of the chassis. Does this mean it's now possible?
Thirty-Nine 03-02-2006, 06:26 PM First off, I doubt Toyota will bring it stateside. I hope I'm wrong.
Secondly, the article, assuming it's legit, says it's a new 1.8-liter engine. That means it might not be the 1ZZ or 2ZZ engines. Maybe something way different.
KevinxB 03-02-2006, 06:31 PM hot
Easyrider1 03-02-2006, 06:36 PM I'd imagine it will probably be the replacement for Xa, no?
Thirty-Nine 03-02-2006, 07:01 PM No. Toyota is already releasing the Yaris in the US, but we're not sure about the T-Sport yet (www.toyota.com)
Why is it this car has gotten almost zero press? Nothing on Autoweek.com, Edmunds.com or any other sites.

and THAT ALONE is why toyota will never sell it in the US..
Toyota USA is out and out afraid of standing out in the crowd.. they just want to keep selling camrys and corollas and prius's...
TheScionicMan 03-02-2006, 07:05 PM Yay... That means in 5-10 years when these engines are plentiful and affordable it may almost be worth the $$ to swap. I'm so excited!!
trikkonceptz 03-05-2006, 05:11 PM This car is coming out .. we are scheduled to recieve them by the end of the month. It will not replace the xA, it is a new economy car to fall below the price point of the corolla CE. To many people in this country with ____ poor credit that can't even afford a corolla ... , toyota needed a cheaper car .. without making the Scions the cheaper alternative.
Tamago 03-05-2006, 10:05 PM yes, the car is coming, but a T-sport??
knowing toyota, they'll call it a Yaris XRS or something equally as ___ hehe
btw, Ivan, i have some short vid clips for ya.
Thirty-Nine 03-05-2006, 10:31 PM I couldn't care what they call it. IF they brought a Yaris T-sport over, there'd be a good chance of me buying one to replace my wife's Civic.
octagon 03-07-2006, 05:25 AM I have a hard time with all this scion ____, its a toyota. A toyota! If the yaris comes over, welcom to the fam, and hopefully more aftermarket support. Support that could lead to swaps.
Tamago 03-07-2006, 12:00 PM lol spoken like a true honda ricer....
swaps schmaps.. who cares.. why swap when you can build what you have..
aireck 03-07-2006, 12:22 PM ^ exactly... we just need more aftermarket love!!!
octagon 03-08-2006, 12:26 AM build what you have with what?? Working with what
hotbox05 03-09-2006, 02:14 AM the t sport will probably never make it. if it does hello scion motor swaps. even if it doesnt. and yes it would be 1zz only.
Thirty-Nine 03-09-2006, 03:17 PM First off, I agree hotbox05 -- it probably won't come over.
As far as engines are concerned, the info that is out now, which isn't much, is saying it's a "new" 1.8 liter engine, so it might not be the 1ZZ. However, it's all speculative considering there is hardly any real info about this concept. It's almost like it went unnoticed by the automotive press. Either that, or Toyota didn't release much info.

I'll take this egg w/ my toaster.
05_JDM_bB 03-29-2006, 06:19 AM I'm loving the car for some reason. Too bad they're not naming the Vitz like how it is in Japan, instead we get the Euro name. Can't wait to see it soon. Toyota has started advertising it heavily as of late. I remember a month back, they had it on Mad TV in their skits. They had like 2 colors on the show. A red and a blue one I believe.
SnakeXB 03-29-2006, 08:10 PM lets get over to the www.toyota-yaris.com
start a discussion and we can make a petition to toyota to actually bring this car to the US
