Default JDM foglight switch install

After doing a long search, I see nowhere where this has been mentioned. So I either got a bum kit in a sealed JDM Toyota box - or everyone else who's claimed to install JDM lights on an xB is full of crap.

The switch that plugs into the dash (that comes with the JDM setup) DOES NOT work, the plug that is used for the USA spec fogs does not mate up with the switch you are given with the JDM's.

Less important, the instructions are in Japanese - but at least have pictures that are helpful (not that I'd expect them in English from a JDM)

Carson Toyota is looking into a fix to the problem for me and are supposed to get back to me on Monday. Everything else fits up as it should, the lights themselves, relay...

I could hotwire them with a solder gun I'm sure, but I don't want to do that and I don't like permanent mods like that. Much easier to use the correct peices to begin with.

Goign JDM can always result in situations like this. I am surprised Carson wsn't aware of this though. People think these cars are exactly the same(xB/bB)...they're not.

Precisely.

The obvious and first thing I did was called for a USDM switch - JUST THE SWITCH. Of all the Scion dealers I've called (including Carson), no one has a listing for it. Basically - at this time you can't buy JUST the switch.

This is exactly why I called bullsh*t on all the people who've claimed to have JDM (with no pics) and this topic never came up.

If you come up with a wiring fix before I do bBted, let me know! ... and vice-versa of course if I beat YOU to it.

I'm going to have to either 1. break out the solder gun and wire some bullet connectors inline (so it can still be taken apart) and modify the JDM switch or 2. buy an entire USDM foglight setup for the switch and sell the left overs on eBay or something.

Sometimes you just have to be lucky like me and come across a USDM Switch.

I'm not sure if you were the one who pmed me, but like I said in it, Radio shack should have switches that fit in our stock location. It would be easier to cut the plug on the wires and just hard-wire a new switch. That would be the easiest way of going about it.

I got my JDM fogs from a friend as a gift and they didn't come with a switch or relay. I bought the US ones from Toyota which had to be ordered. They cost 90 bucks for both. If someone needs the part numbers, let me know

Psycho - yes, I PM'd you about the switch. I knew that you really did have JDM fogs.

dsidescion - yes, post the part number for the SWITCH.

This "topic" should be sticky'd or clearly noted in the tech area. If you buy JDM fogs, you MUST ALSO purchase a USDM switch in addition to the kit.

.....or do some soldering and wiring. Fine for custom stereo's... not good for dash switches.

Advantages of this?

Sounds like a similar situation that I had w/ my VW and wiring up some Euro headlights.

The USDM ones aren't smoked, they just have no shiny finish inside. They're just plain potmetal so they don't look shiny inside like the JDMs (and EVERY other foglight I've looked at since getting these )

OK... they're wired and working. A JDM switch does work if you figure out the circuit path. Basically it came down to the same-old-same-old.... meaning I had to figure it out from scratch. Haven't gotten the light up portion of the button to work yet, but I'll figure that part out too - was to busy with shop time to get to it.

To anyone who offered help - thanks for the input.

To anyone who knew the answer and DIDN'T offer help - K.M.A.

I didn't take photo's of the install but it's not had to figure out.

If you have a JDM switch (if you get JDM fogs, you do...) Go get 2 small butt connectors, 3 small spade connectors (male) and 3 peices of small gauge wire about 3" each.

After you have that, I'll tell you what to do with them.

Bump on this. I've been thinking about getting the OEM fogs and after reading reviews of the USDM no way in hell! I'm going JDM or not getting any at all.

I have yet to see good up close pics of the JDM fog lamps and also would like to know about the wiring of the JDM switch.
