Default New Brakes

Hey guys,

Its time to change my front brake pads. Since the stock ones lasted 25k miles, I was thinking of just getting the same ones. Any advice?
How are TRD brake pads - any performance gains?

(please move if need be, I didnt know if it belonged in Wheels and Tires)

TRD seriously makes pads for the car??
i just ordered Hawk carbon pads for my new rotors..heard good things about them
but if ur keepin ur stock rotors, and not doing alot of aggressive driving, id say stick with OEM

i think the OEM pads are pretty good. the tC in general stops very good, since its a relatively light car with 4 wheel disks.

you might try porterfield's R4S (Street compound).. it's a carbon/kevlar compound.. great when cold and hot outside.. not sure if they have the tC yet.

Had it on my old civic, phenomenal friction! But yes I agree the OEM pads are pretty impressive that scion/toyota's engineers put those on there.

go with oem. you could change your fluid too for better performance.

Pads and stainless steel brake lines are good upgrades that are pretty easy.

Then it sounds like the TRD pads might be the ticket for you, as that's certainly what they advertise. Look for something with a higher coefficient of friction than the stock pads, which will result in an improved "bite"/grip on the rotors. I didn't vote any of your 3 choices listed, because I think you might like another brand even more. I'd suggest you give EBC's "green stuff" line a shot (guessing they have them for the tC by now), as I know they'd give you what you're looking for. Good luck!

I use BBCs on the motorcycles sometimes - good pads!

Which one did you get the drilled or sloted? While we're talking about brakes, can i make a quick rotor question? What are the pro's and con's between sloted and drilled rotors. Only info i can find out is that drilled last longer. I think drilled look a lot better. Oh yeah donscion you need find a way to host the pictures. And either post a link to them or use the (img) (/img) button from where u write a post. Exp. (img) www.mybrakepics.com/picture1(/img). Just repleace the ( ) with these { }

Im under the impression that 25k is not a low mileage for stock pads.

Drilled/slotted/waved rotors all have claimed advantages in cooling and breaking effectiveness.
Cooling benefits should be obvious, but "better" bite/feel is claimed as the pads are continually getting a "new leading edge" which is what researchers are convinced makes for better brakes.
I have waved and drilled rotors on all my bikes, and some older bikes had slotted. Since bikes are all about performance, I have to believe we were ahead of the curve there (as well as auto-racers of course) and this is now making it's way to the street in cars. I know performance street cars have had them a long time...
A lot of it is "the look" too. Nothing wrong with that.
But slotted/drilled/waved rotors will go through pads more quickly, all things being equal.

I don't know if it's worth the money or a tC or not, but they look nice, and surely won't hurt performance.

also remember that stock pads might not last so long using the stock tires.. if you got a stickier, better tire, that would aid in stopping the car, and reducing the need for harder braking.. i switched out my tires for more performance and the pads have at least another 10k on them and i'm at 20k.. that's something to also think about..
