i made one much like it out of PVC piping... very nice and very loud. But on really rainy days, on highways, it would tend to suck in mist of water, and then drench the MAF sensor, then trip the "Check Engine" light and then the car would run like crap, would get too much fuel. Wonder if anyone else put this one on and had the same problem. I'm looking for an intake, and i dont like the fact that the AEM and some others have that many bends in them, too much wind sher and vortex' causing unstable air flow. Just seeing what ppl found to work the best

I have that intake. I haven't had any problems with rain. It's not that loud either.

i have it. I have driven my xb through 1 1/2 inch puddles at 30 MPH and the engines fine. The intake is very quiet. No complaints here

I don't think thats a problem. The filter at the end is most likely a K&N and they filter out moisture pretty well. The AEM CAI has a water filter in the pipe, I assume that's why TOYOTA chose to install them on the SCIONS.

It's not a water filter, it's a foam jobber that kills vaccuum pressure @ the main filter.

It's almost useless, unless theres a lot of flash floods in your area.

i have the SPFR intake, which places the filter about a foot lower than the injen, and have driven in pouring rain, and through puddles of 3" standing water... i've never had a problem with the check engine light going on, or with the intake sucking up water.

I don't think it's really an issue with any of the shipping intake systems (SPFR, Injen, K&N, EL Prototypes, Blitz, AEM, Etc...)

Something else to consider, PVC piping wasnt made to be "baked" by engine compartment heat. I have heard that doing this for intakes can result in the plastic giving off noxious gases. Save yourself the headaches and get a true intake.

Hmmm, water on the MAF sensor wires ... I never thought of that one :shock:

If heavy rain worries you see if you can get a drycharger cover from K&N that will fit the Injen filter. It may restrict airflow a bit but it should keep most of the liquid sunshine out of your intake.

I'd love to do an experiment with a shop vac, a few vacuum gauges and various intakes to see just how much water can get sucked in if the filter is submerged completely. Too bad I don't have the $$$ lying around to satisfy my idle curiosity about these things.
