Default What do you guys think of photoblocker?

I received a letter last year saying that I've ran a red light and that I was to pay $351 and go to traffic school. It was so long ago that I didn't even remember running the red light. I don't run red light at all, maybe this only time that I wasn't aware of. But I was really surprised that I was caught by a Red Light Camera. If any of you guys have been caught running a red light by a camera before, you guys should really consider something like this.

I just want to know how you guys feel about smearing your license plate with photoblocker.

$351 for running a light?!?!? Dang, I ran a stop sign back in high school and only a 40 something dollar fine. I am guessing that those things to do to your plate don't really work as they say they do. Probably just another "as seen on TV" scams. I wouldn't trust it.

From what I read it appears it's just a high gloss paint. You can get clear gloss anywhere. For it to work it also assumes the camera system uses a flash. I have absolutely no experience with traffic photo systems but it seems to me that having a flash on a red light camera would be a hazard to oncoming motorists.

They do indeed use flashes. Big ones. We've got about half a dozen photo-monitored intersections local to us now-- minimum fine is in the $300 range. I've never seen what the flashes look like at night, but I have seen them go during the day. Looks like a regular camera flash, only imagine holding a soup can around the flash. Focused.

Thanks for the info Dr_Isotope.

The police would make a fortune if they put those in Florence. It's pretty much expected that once a light turns red 3 more cars go through. You put your life at risk if you don't count or ensure everyone is comfortably stopped before proceeding into an intersection.

the flash at night just looks like a lightning flash. REAL bright and real quick. seen it tons of times.

the cam only goes off once you past the SECOND line, or at least thats what i think. ive seen a guy who couldnt stop in time and he rolled past the second line and FLASH. he stopped and backed up. lol. but it was too late...

Write a check for $351 and photocopy it, send the photocopy to the police.

I mean they took a pic of your plate, just take a pic of your check.

a crime to put plastic coating or other material on top of license plates to make it more difficult for police surveillance cameras to detect tag numbers.

Beginning July 1 [2005], it will be a misdemeanor — with a maximum jail term of one year and a fine of up to $1,000 — to cover license plates with such material.

Georgia laws, according to this, says that doing somethin like that is illegal. I know they wont see your plates, so, I dunno how'd they catch you, but who knows, they must have their ways.

Well I assume as soon as the law figures out the little sceme, if they haven't already, they will begin legislation to pass a law in any state that has the red light cameras implemented. Sucks, but.. laws are in place for a reason.

100% Legal to buy and sell! (to buy and sell, didnt say to use)

The law in most countries (most being the key word)

You just have to read all the subtle cues they throw out, and always, always check your local laws. You really dont want to get busted for somethin like that.

I didn't buy it, although I said earlier that it works like a charm. I just went out and bought a can of clear spray paint from Wal-Mart. Works just the same, and I have accidentally gone through tolls and seen the flash numerous times, yet have not recieved tickets.

Still feel like a dick for not paying the tolls, though.

The fine has been increased to $371 in California now. I just bought a can for $30. Might be expensive, but I'd rather pay $30 than $371. I will see if it really does work as good as they claim it be. I will take my own pictures with flash to see if it does work.
