eBay Halo fog lights... Installed (pics)
I took a chance and got a halo-fog light kit off of eBay. Before jumping in I did some research here on the site and for the most part the concensus leaned towards the stock fog lights mainly for ease of install and warranty issues. After some deliberation I came to the conclusion that I'd get what I wanted and I was confident that I could install the lights myself. Of course what sealed the deal for me was that I got them for $175.00 + shipping. I just couldn't let myself pay close to $400.00 for a couple lights and a plastic grill. With that said... Here's my experience and naturally a couple pic's of the finished product.
In the box... The kit was well packaged, sealed in a plastic bag and wrapped with bubble wrap. I was pretty impressed until I realized that there was NO WIRING DIAGRAM!!!!
No problem though... I'm pretty good with wiring and figured out where to hook everything up in no time. For those that are considering getting these... read on... I'll explain where and how to make all the neccassary connections.
The grill and lights... The grill is a direct copy of the OEM Scion foglight grill. When compared to the stock grill the quality was identical. The lights were also of good quality the light housings were die cast metal pieces that were painted black and screwed together. the wires had heat resistant insulation with water proof pin and socket connectors. The mounting bracket and adjustment implementation was IMO jusk OK but still good enough to get the job done.
Wiring and harness... The harness was done guite well and on par with anything you'd get from the factory with the exception being that it came with NO WIRING DIAGRAM!!!!
The harness connections are as follows. From the lights back to the switch, there's 6 wires (2 pairs of 3) that connect into the lights, just match up the colors. From there they route into 2 relays, one for the lights and one for the halo's. From the relays there's 2 hot leads (red) crimped together that go to + and a black ground. Each of the hot leads has a 14amp in-line fuse. The hot I connected to the battery and the ground I attached to chassis ground located on the battery pan. From the relays out there's one blue and one white wire that terminate with pin and socket connectors. I routed those through the hood release cable pass-through of the firewall. The blue and white wires then connect into a 4 position connector which in turn connect to the switch pod. In addition to the blue and white wires there's another hot lead (red) and ground that need to be attached to switched power under the dash. You can tap into (red + wire) the existing fog light circuit in the fuse panel and then find a good ground for the black wire. I'll update this post later with pic's of where I routed the wires but for now it'll just be text. There was plenty of left over wire as the harness was a lot longer than it needed to be, so I just bundle up the slack an hid it behind the left kick panel. from there I just attached the switch pod with the supplied double stick mounting pad. Below are a few pic's of the finished product. The switches are on the cheezey side but work well. The fog lights only work when the car is on and of course turn off with the ignition. They're completely independant of the headlights and you have a choice of ON, Just Halo, On w/ Halo or OFF.

Here you can just see the switch pod above the left kick panel.

I'm happy with the way they turned out and it wasn't that big of a risk... they're only lights ferchrissake.
I'll take some night shots later and post them.
