Not really opinion... but where is everyone's heart leaning on this one.... I'm really liking the idea of SCN... And Hope they step up with a Scion Class...
It'd be a great opportunity to represent Scion in a place where you can't even buy them...
Bring on the USDM!!!!
It's a big trip for me, but would like to see who's on board in the long range planning on this one... my major mods should be done by then, so this could be a really good show for my tC.
Dave, Dustin, Brian? Any chance we'll see some aggressive xB's there?
Just getting the ball rolling early and seeing what I can get moving down here to bring up there, if that's where we want to guide momentum.

I know that I will (and probably Dave as well) will be going to SCN. In the past, Canada shows have not had a Scion class. But we're going to work on getting one this year. Especially if we can bring up a bunch of them.
I don't know for sure if my car or Daves car will be there, but I will be there in person.
I hope my car is back. I need to represent some xA's around here. hehehe.
Their website is up now, but they don't have any info on the Vancouver show yet. As soon as they do, I'll contact them about having a Scion class. If they don't already have one.

I'm thinking Vancouver, BC as well... just solely due to the fact that Scions don't exist up there and it'd be a good niche to represent... Imagine cars we couldn't get here in the US, coming to a show... we'd definately want to take a look at them...
Who puts on Global? If it's allie, It would be another preference toward SCN in Vancouver. as I'm in the mood for something different.
I'm game for a fun Canada Trip.... eh?
And... for the Noobs.... Both the Global Show in Tacoma, and Sport Compact Nights, in Vancouver, BC are on the same day, so we only get to choose one....
I definately say we should ALL try our damndest to represent at SCN and really bring a Scion Class up there to show! (It's a little trip, but would be SOOO fun, especially cause no Scions are up there)

I'd have to say, that I've been pulled toward the SCN side, even without a Scion Class, over the Global side...
Just not feeling the whole Global/Import Motion shows ... I'd go if there weren't other options, but realistically, the last two importmotion shows were cool for people/club participation, but really not good when it came down to brass tacks and organization/consistency...
The 25 dollar late entry at the last show / the awards at both shows / lack of real updates on the web site and other things really weren't cool...
I can't imagine how awesome it would be to show Scions in Canada!
BCS

It's alot of fun. For the most part, the xA's don't get any love (what else is new though, right?) But the xB's do. The xA's are essentially the echo Hatchback. They look very similar. But there is nothing like the xB up there. There are actually a few people that own them up there. There was a guy or a dealership that was selling them up there last year we went up there. But they were starting at like $20K. USD too.
Canada is fun because it's just a party weekend. We always go out and basically get plastered. The bars and clubs up there are some much more fun. Our choice is usually the Cactus Club. But pretty much anywhere that we can get Belinni's works for us. hahaha. Last year there were about 10 of us at the table, and I think we had about 40 or 50 Belinni glasses.
You're right though, even without a Scion class it's a fun time.

As for the Canada show I think you guys would have a blast up there. I drove up there with the tC one weekend and you wouldn't believe the amount of people that commented on the car or drove by staring. It's like I was driving an expensive exotic or something! Now to see Tim's car driving around up there . . . I can't even imagine what that would be like!
Have fun whatever you all end up doing!

I'll be heading north to SCN. If you're going to SCN remember to bring a passport or birth certificate. Book a hotel room early! Sandman is always a good time and in the past they've been the official hotel of the show (i.e. discount). Like I said at Import Motion, divide and conquer, there is no mandate that everyone go to one show, I say go to whichever is the most financially prudent, fun, and fits into your schedule. I'd like to see good representation at both shows.
That being said, if we could get a head count for that will be showing/attending each show, please count off.
SCN
1. Foth (showing)
2.
3.
Global
1. KalEl
2.
3.
Preregistering for SCN will be KEY for getting a scion class. I believe it will take AT least 5 cars to qualify for a class.
Also for Canada, bring black non tennis shoes and nice clothes if you plan to go to the clubs, I usually don’t, I just end up in a bar . 19 to drink in Canada, and for those under 25 the new law is you must have 2 pieces of photo ID.
As far as attractions, music, etc… both shows are about the same. Last year the SCN show was a double point event for NCCA, not sure if that will hold true for this year. And as a correction there are Scions in Canada… very few… but they are there. Every show I’ve gone to up there is seems like has at least 1. Last year at SCN was a guy with a white xB, full fab kit, recaros, etc, etc. Very nice and clean.

well whether or not you meant to say only their names or not, i was just merely makin the point that those 3 guys are not the only ones with nice scions here in. if you are going to recognize some, you should recognize everyone. Just my opinion.
Sheep, good luck he has a nice car... but i know that you can give him a run for his money & yes it's all in good fun, but @ the same time it is still competition...
WeDriveScions
03-11-2006, 08:27 PM
I'll recognise who the dang well people I want to recongnise... I'm just a guy, seeing if people I know with cool cars are going to come to a show... didn't mean that the other cars weren't aggressive of cool, or showworthly... just wanted to see Brian, Dustin, and Dave at SCN and wanted to go with them, like the ol' times... (at least with D&D)
Drama talk is "YAWNNNNN" The search for deeper meaning is not neccesary... I want every fricken Scion in the NW to go to SCN if I could have my way... but since Brian and Dave didn't show up to IM, I wanted to ask them to come to SCN and thought I'd compliment their rides as well... Plus, like I said, Dustin is my homie... and he's number 1 on my xB owners list... so I wanted to MAKE Sure the guy would come up to the show, as it wouldn't be the same without him there. So much overreaching to explain....
In regards to competition...
Competition is overrated.... especially is it's club on club... then it's just cheeseball crap... I'd rather unite Scion Owners then divide them by having them compete against each other...
I think healthy and fair friendly competition amoungst guys is always good motivation to continue modding... but secretive, team on team, and oneupsmanship type competition is just lame and divisive.
For me, it's about the car and what you can do with it yourself... taking time with friends to learn and modify and just having fun modifying the car cause you can... not paying people to do it for you and just "Showing" a car.
I've seen plenty of amazing tC's that would put anything we have come up with to shame... but, somehow people still respect my ride and lift it up over those, as they know that they didn't do anything themselves, or put the blood, sweat, and mind power into researching, learning, and applying knowledge to do it by hand.
I don't worry too much about being beat... anyone can do it with enough cash to blow... that's why I think "Competition" is not really that... in that regard, anyone with 20,000 to blow could take me in a second with enough shop work.
I'll be at shows, win or lose, and expect the nw guys to catch up to the california guys, especially with tCs and start to add more losses to my book... just the way it goes.
But, I'll still be hanging with Dustin, and his crazy rapping... loving Tu's photo skills with the ladies, and going show to show... blingin' out the Scion name. BOOYA!
ratcityrain
03-11-2006, 10:22 PM
Trust me, I know 1st hand what it's like to put your own money, blood & sweat into a vehicle. Every car I have ever owned, i have done all the work too expect for a couple things here and there. And yes it's very satsifying when you get something done w/ ur own mind and hands. Great feeling it is so I will agree with you on there.
I hate drama just as much as the other guy and I only made that comment 'cause in the post for IM and now SCN, you only mention those 3 names and therefor I wanted to make sure that every other scion owner gets recognition. Yes you have a nice car & just like you said earlier...I have seen and know of TC's out there that will blow yours out of the water as well as XB's that will do the same to mine & with those cars, the person has done the work themselves. So I don't want to start issues of course 'cause that's not the kind of guy I am, but again it just appears that you only want to see those guys at shows 'cause those are the only one's you mention or talk about. They do have nice cars yes, but they are not the only ones with nice cars.
Just like you said also, I rather see every scion owner at shows but I can't be spoiled like that anymore. Being in california opened a whole new life to me in car shows and i can't compare that scene to the northwest scene. In my opinion, it just won't "EVER" happen. Not enough demand up here for that kind of scene. I wished we could have that kind of support, but it just isnt' going to happen.
I don't want to start ____e or sound like a dik, but I just want to make sure that all the other guys out there who have a Scion, not just Dustin, Brian and Dave, get recognition whether or not they put $5 into their car or $10,000.

Took me forever to find it on the site, registration for SCN in $50 Canadian... so about REGISTRATION COST : 50$ CAD per vehicle. (about $43 USD... wow, that used to be like 30...grrr :flame:). If your coming from PDX you'll need to find a place to sleep in either place.
Couldn't tell you what Global cost, the site isn't up. Back when Mospeed ran it, it was about the same price.
If you go to Canada, budget for alcohol (personal priority), hotel (share a room/save some money), food, gas for 300 miles of driving round trip (from Seattle ~about 10-12 gallons xA/xB, don't know for tC).

Hey Guys,
Glad to hear that there's so much interest in attending our show. Just to answer a few questions, there will in fact be a scion class if we have at least 5 entered just like what Dave said. Also judging from the amount of people interested, if we get 5 of each make we will even separate the scion classes.
For the Hotels, we usually have an official hotel that can provide you guys with a discounted price. This information will be posted up on the site shortly.
Included in the registration fee, will be 2 VIP passes for the event, a 5 L jug of Castrol Syntec oil, some Meguiar's products, and more. Online registration is up already, just go to the following link and click on the Vancouver registration http://www.sportcompactnights.ca/tour.php#

Count me in definitely for Global. Since most of you are heading up North, I think there needs to be some people repping close to home.
RatCity: I will be at Driven to Performance so you can still count on me. This will be my canadian show......

Sounds good sheep. When it gets closer to Global, we will have to work something out so we can roll in together

Pretty cool that the organizer for SCN stopped by!
Sport Compact Nights (Vancouver, BC) CANADA BABY!, EH?
Um...I still don't know. I've still got a lot on my plate on the whole "trying to win at life, rather than car shows" thing.

I'm planning to go to SCN, but not showing. I just don't like being stuck in one place for most of the day. I'd rather be able to go out and check out Vancouver, it's such a nice city.

Most of us do that anyway. You set up your car and then take off. As long as you are back for judging, you are fine. If you are lucky, you get to be one of the first ones judged. Then you can go anywhere you want. Almost everything is within walking distance.

thats what iwanted to hear...cuz i decided to show but i didnt want to be in there ALL DAY long lol....
oh i think someone mentioned it, but if you can refresh my memory, what do we need to get over the boarder? i thought i read somewhere a passport or your origional birth certificit. but i want to be sure incase i do actually have to get a passport...

ID card and a birth certificate -or- a passprt
YVR is a 100% walking city. plus the really nice thing is, anything thats not within walking distace, the busses run everywhere all the time...
I'll be sending my money in today....

Passport, or Birth Certificate and Driver's License...
Passport is the fastest in my experience though.

Local Post office can help... or look up an immigration office in the city and give them a call... It's pretty straightforward... just takes time.... But, you're going to global... don't need one..... UNLESS??? SCN!

Maybe its time this thread split...? I think there is enough information here about both events and what people are doing, so perhaps the list master would start a new thread for SCN only and Global only.

Well, the passport would be for future visits........like for Driven......or just because........
I am set on going to Global since we need some rep here in the hometown.....

If anything, I'd want to create two separate brand new threads. After thumbing through all of this, it's a lot to differentiate between the two shows a lot of it seems scattered. I'd rather create two new threads with the latest lists up top and link to this thread for previous discussion. Does that sound cool? What does the peanut gallery think?

I'm not sure I will be in this one. I may be in Ames IA(or headed back) that weekend.
Besides, I'm really only there for team support.
I'm also not paying 70 bucks just to turn on my carcomputer, or whatever the cost is.
As for new mods.....
I have more ideas than money....
If I don't make it, have fun.
