Default Trade in my '06 tC for an '06 xB? [Venting Inside]

Warning: I may have to vent in this post.

I am 18. When I was 16 my parents bought me a 2003 Ford Mustang. Two months ago I got my 2006 tC.

I'm not that happy with it. Well I love the interior. The audio head-unit door is pure sex. The dual panarma sunroof is so hot. Ahh! The inside is so nice... but when I look at the outside... IDK.. I don't like it anymore. And the tC is way too slow for my liking.

Then why go w/ even lower HP from the xB... well at least I'll have better MPG's. If I'm not satisfied with the tC's HP.. I might as well go for better MPG's! I love this xB so much...

I love the exterior look of the xB. The inside isn't as hot as the tC's though. But I'll have 4 doors (easier for passengers) and a lot more room.

I just hate how I always change my mind. I keep on making horrible decisions in life. I just want a car I like w/ good MPG's and a better job than I have now.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

I can definitely understand where you're coming from, however before you make your final decision take some of this friendly advice into consideration

First, you went from a really fast performance machine with a Mustang to a 4 cylinder tuner car...American muscle and import tuner friendly vehicles are like apples and oranges...You're hearing less engine growl in the tC, have a weaker take off, and far less HP...The adjustment from a muscle car (in essence) to a sport coupe is probably going to take some time in getting used to...You've only had the tC for two months...I honestly think you should give it some more time to see if it will grow on you...

xB VS tC Pro's and Cons...depends on how you look at it...

Ride Quality - You're gonna lose a lot of it with the xB's stiffer suspension that comes stock with it, and adding aftermarket rims and tires will only make you feel those potholes even more...Sure you'll be able to grip the road better and it adds better handling, but you'll feel the road even more, and the ride is bumpy and choppy enough as it is...Oh and don't get me started on all the buzzing and rattling noises that will drive you insane enough to start a million threads asking how to mend them here...

Interior - Forget it, the xB can't begin to touch the tC...Sure there's almost a foot of headroom between the top of your head and ceiling even when sitting straight up, and leg room is also substantial, but the appearance is a lot less appealing on the eyes...The xB is like one big Lego...Everything snaps together and can come apart with a push and tug...The dash board and door sills under the window scuff very easily...The glove compartment plastics also scuff and scratch more easily...

The single tach/speedo is overrated and only looks cool for the first couple of weeks, then you get used to it and wish you had a nice normal setup again...Also, the stock xB interior dash lighting doesn't match at all like the tC does...The clock is a different shade of amber than the stock head unit (if the head unit you get is stock), and the speedo is a bright white and black, while the center a/c area console colors are a lighter amber than the radio and clock...To get anythin nice looking, you'll have to switch out the led's and get a new face for your speedo...As for space...Your trunk space sucks unless you completely fold the back seats down...

Engine - 4 cylinder Toyota Echo or 4 cylinder Toyota Camry??? Nuff said...

Now some Pro's for the xB...

Drive Quality - Smooth acceleration, steady vavle timing with excellent throttle response in both the manual and automatic...

The xB is also great on road trips with it's good gas mileage and room for four comfortably, although your trunk space will be limited...

Killer audio sound bounces off the inside of the xB...Anyone tells you the stock tC has better audio than a stock xB is full of ____...Set both of the radios to xA mode and you'll hear what I'm talking about...

Xb is also easier to get in and out of...Almost no crouching or bending whatsoever, and exiting or entering the vehicle is almost effortless...

The novelty factor - I still get looks in my xB, and let's face it, these square little toy looking cars will more than likely always draw a crowd while the tC looks like any other Honda, Acura, Toyota, etc etc sport coupe around today...

And before I go on I'll stop my petty ranting, and leave you with this question...

Ask yourself...Do I want a car that is good to go out of the box that looks nice on the outside, and is really comfortable and appealing inside with a lot of extras already included like a moonroof, alloy wheels, matching interior lighting, and decent performance....Or do I want a really catchy box car that although is really fun to mod, has a choppy ride, needs a lot of money put into it to even get up to the tC in standard options, buzzes and rattles, has a rough idle and also has an uber rock friendly windshield that is begging to be cracked and replaced...

Think about it man...I personally wouldn't do it if I were you, but hey if you wanna join the xB family, I don't really blame you...They're really fun cars to own and drive and the good far outweighs the bad, but I'm personally ready to grow up into more of a real car and less of a novelty...

They didn't. The bought my Mustang, but then I had to pay for half of it. And I'm paying $250 a month for my tC.

The box is fun to own and costs less then a TC. You could probably get one for the same payment. With the XB though, you have to get it lowered and add some rims which costs extra. I love mine though, and I have no complaints about the interior. There are so many ways to mod this car its insane. They are so much fun to own.

It's not that the idle is really rough, but it does fluctuate when at a stop in drive for the autos and when in neutral for manual...The idle can sometimes bog down especially on the autos to where you feel the vibration in the steering wheel and dash when at a complete stop...This is normal for the engine and it won't harm anything, it's just a bother to me is all...I did install a grounding kit though and it smoothed the idle out perfectly...

However, that would be another add on to bring the xB up the par with the tC...I have honestly heard nothing about people complaining on the tC's fluctuating idle...A little throttle delay in the manual, but with the drive by wire system it uses, it's normal...

You'd take a huge hit on depreciation. It's not worth it.

the xb doesn't need impressive numbers to be fast. I can pull away from a auto tC with i/e with my xb from a 20mph roll. (just going to 70mph speed limit on a highway. Which i might point out no traffic was in front or behind..before you guys start yelling im an idiot)

120-130whp may not seem like alot, sure its not but thats all the box needs to be very quick. Besides, cornering is where its at and the xb can out corner the tC any day with identical set ups. (i.e spring for spring, coilover for coilover)

So i say do it.

Funny and thats the one I'm trying to trade out of now *LOL* :D

I owe too much on it though because I took to big of a hit when I traded in my Hyundai Santa Fe for the xB...I'l be stuck with this car for at least another 6 months until I can ge the payoff to a fair trade in amount or re-selling amount...

Makes me wonder if anyone will want to buy it private party from the forums once I'm ready to sell it...It is immaculate and maintained to the "T"...Ah well, we'll see I gues thats not until a few months from now :D

Oh and to get the thread back on topic...Yes don't trade in the tC for the xB, you'll be losing a lot in the trade in should you decide to get out of the xB down the line...I'd honestly say stick with the tC until the newer Scion models or another Toyota model comes out you're interested in and then trade in that tC...From the looks of it, the tC's are holding their value as good as Hondas these days...I know someone who traded in a late 04/early 05 IIP tC for an 06' Nautical blue, and got almost what he paid for it, and he put well over 40,000 miles on his tC already!!! Now thats an impressive buyback :D

I traded in my tC for my xB... But then again, I buy a new car every 6-8 months, so... eh..

They are both nice, but the only thing that'll solve your itch is scratching it.

That explains why I saw an xB next to me at a stoplight with the front bumper shaking. What is this "grounding kit" and where did you get it?

I'm an xB owner who had always wished he had a tC. A few weeks ago my bro-in-law bought a tC. A few days later he had to go out of town and he gave me his tC to drive around and do some work on it. I found that the interioir of the tC was just as "legoish" as the xB. All it takes is 4 screws to remove the entire tC console, as opposed to the xB's 3 screws (four with the armrest). So that to me is not a point to judge by. These cars are meant to snap apart really easyily because they are designed to be modded. Unfortunately I also learned that the tC componants scratch just as easily and in some cases eaiser than in my xB. (Let's just hope my bro-in-law doesn't notice). After putting over 200 miles on his tC in 4 days, and then getting back into my xB, the only thing that I really missed about the tC was ....well nothing. The xB is definately more comfortable if your tall. The clutch is nice and short, and its well timed. this tC was very rough and you really had to baby the clutch, though I'm sure it was just stiff from being new. And trust me I heard just as many rattles in his tC as I've heard in my box, and that was before I took his tC apart. So the lesson for me has been that for the past 18 months I've been wishing I got a tC and really, they just aren't the car for me. You need to find what works best for you. Go rent an xB for a while if you can, take a test drive at your dealer. Befriend a box owner, do what you can to expose yourself to the an xB before you make a jump like that. This type of buyers remorse could cost you thousands in the end.
