Default New Wheels and Tires and Paint..OH MY! *Lots o Pix*

I got rear ended at the beginning of the year and got pushed into the car in front of me. Damage looked to be minor, but was actually pretty severe when you got under the car. Anyways, I had the rear Scion logo shaved from the hatch when the front and rear bumpers were rpainted at the body shop. I also got new wheels and tires which I installed on Thursday right after I got the car back.

Heres some pics of my car up on the frame bench:

hey quick question. how much did it cost or get the back shaved? i got quoted 200 for that, and the center consol and gauge consol painted (flint mica) is that a good deal?

Love the tires/wheels. Who did the paint - it looks like it came out great - and FM must be a biatch to match.

The wheels are awesome. A little more drop would be nice unless it distorts the handling.

Since the car was in the shop already, they were going to charge me $140 to shave the logo, but since they took a full month to finish (they quoted 2 weeks) they didnt charge me for it at all. They did a very nice job though and ended up reapinting almost half of the car. The hatch and right rear quarter panel were completely repainted along with half of the right door to get the colors to blend. The front bumper cover was refurbished and completely repainted along with part of the hood and front fenders...again to get the blending right. The really good thing is that they put some nice heavy clear on the car and even color sanded it so the finish is amazing and will be much more durable than from the factory.

As far as the drop, Im happy with it and do not have plans to go any lower. After driving around with the new tires and hotchkis rear sway, the car is literally on rails and I am confident it would pull very close to 1G on the skidpad. Going lower would not improve the handling and would only make the car more suceptible to scraping (I have the factory ground effects so Im already lower than stock from that aspect). Form follows function in my eyes so a little wheel gap doesnt bother me. Its way better than stock and in person its not as obvious.

Just some more pics to share. Basically I got rear ended while stopped at a light by a Toyota minivan going about 15mph. Soccer Mom wasnt paying attention...luckily she had already dropped the kids off at school. I got pushed into the Echo stopped in front of me which ended up with no damage. Her bumper hit my bumper squarely so the crash structures did exactly what they were supposed to. Her license plate numbers were basically tatooed onto my bumper and you could read the plate in reverse. The body shop basically cut off all the bent metal and replaced it with new parts. Toyota actually sells a kit with all the parts for body shops to replace the crush zones....Here are the pics:

The threads are where the actual aluminum bumper mounts to:

Spare tire area floor...bent metal and split seam:

The back end has been cut off. The gnarled peice of square tubiing is the frame rail. It was bent back over itself:

This is the passenger side which had more damage:

You can see how the frame rail got distorted form the impact. Luckily this is all right at the rear of the car so there is no effect on the suspension:

Its really amazing how much damage can happen from a 15mph impact. Doenst seem like much, but when theres 3500 pounds behind it, it really puts a hurt on. For all the damage under the car, you would never had know if you looked at the car. The rear bumper dropped ever so slightly and the hatch had a dent. Very minimal damage cosmetically.

Thats what Im talkin bout. Everyone on here wants to go as low as possible yet fails to realize that your making the suspension worse in terms of performance. I think that TRD and H&R did it right in terms of performance. Any lower and its just cosmetic. I couldn't even imagine trying to take a turn high speed with a +2" drop and realizing mid-turn that there is a huge bump or pothole and losing control because of it.

Oh, and the car looks sick! I wish I could have gotten the Azenis' but I went with the Ziex's instead because of NE snow and bad weather in general. Falken's are great tires!!! Im sure the Azenis' are disgustingly stickier than mines.

EDIT: I guess I should mention that Im referring to daily driving. If your car is for the track or things of that nature then I guess lower is fine. EDIT

I am blown away by these tires. I knew they would be good, but I just had no idea. As far as the drop, I personally dont want my car to look "lowered". I prefer the more subtle mods that arent as obvious. Even the wheels are very similar to stock in that they are a split 6 spoke wheel. I just want my car to look very clean and smooth and for someone who looks at it to say it looks really nice not even realizing anything has been done to it.

Looks great buddy I like a resonable real performance drop and those wheels, you know how much I love them

I wish I could run those tires but not here in the Pac Northwest, too dang much rain. (Not that we drive the car in the rain much anyway or any other time, lol, mostly it does not run as doing some mod or another

Glad you got it back and they did such a nice job on it!!!

thats too bad they had to blend the color

if they would have actually tried they could have matched the color exact. i did it in about an hour. but never the less it looks like they did a good job on the car. and i love the shaved emblem...i did it myself 2 weeks ago :-D

The color is right on actually...They just blended it to ensure it was perfect, but from what I can see they could have gotten away without it. Either way, Im extremely happy with it...especially with the heavier clear on the front end.

Thanks again for the rim and tire advice Rick...Im really looking forward to the next couple track days..Streets of Willow in in mid april and mid march
