I was wondering what is the fastest car that toyota/scion currently produced?

I know it use to be the GTS celica for awhile but since that's gone now, is it the tC?

I find it odd that toyota doesn't seem to care about performance at all.. Does their fastest car really only have a 160hp 2.4 and run a mid 15?

268 horses... Same engine in the new Camry.

Also, are you including Lexus in this question?

And, the Matrix XRS and Corolla XRS still have the VVTL-i Celica engine, and 6-speed. They still make those. The HP rating has changed, but I know my Matrix was faster than a tC. (even though just slightly)

Basically, I don't think the tC is the fastest Toyota in production.

Any 0-60, 1/8th, or 1/4 mile times?

I just saw a commercial out about Toyota having a 269HP V6 option available in the RAV4 now.. but I figured it's geared for towing not speed.

Don, I've seen several different magazines where the tC got better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times then the matrix & corolla XRS.

 

I did find a time for the RAV-4.. 1/4 mile was 15.2 @ 91mph.. not too bad and faster then the tC.

 

Toyota ____es me off. Ever since they ended production of the Supra, they haven't done anything as far as a "real" sports car.... Celica GT-S, MR2 Spider's and others similar to it are just a joke when you have 350Z's, RX-8's, and S2000's rolling around. Toyota would make a mint if they released a new Supra....

 

I agree with that 100%.. pretty much any car company I can think of has a faster car then toyota.. I'm not saying they have to make something that runs 12s or 13s, just something that is faster then a 15 from the factory.

If Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Nissan, Acura, Cadillac, Honda, VW, Pontiac, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi can do it, then toyota should be able to also.

Bring back the supra already.

 

What about the Tacoma X-runner? It's pretty swift,isn't it? And I believe there's a turbo or suprecharger on the way from TRD.

Oh yeah, I forgot the X-Runner! That's a bad azz truck! Rear wheel drive V6 with a 6-speed manual... Not sure about the times, but it's 236 hp, 266 lb-ft with LSD.

What the MR-S and Celica GT-S lack in a straight line, they make up for in corners. They are great sports cars, and lightweight unlike the porkers that comeout these days.. granted the GT-S should have come with a modern version of the 2.0 turbo from the all trac (which in its latest form puts out 260ps in the JDM caldina GT) and the MR-S should have come with the GT-S 190 hp (180 in the US right?) engine, but **sigh** u dont always get what u wish for....

The X runner is Bad azz indeed. I think the Avalon is probably faster than the Rav tho...Maybe the 2k7 camry SE V6 ?

 

Yeah big body sedans, and trucks are cool, but we're talking about a sports car....

 

And the supra is said to be coming :D

The X-Runner is probably faster specially when it gets the TRD SC.
Supposedly since Toyota has entered F1 they are planing to bring out sportier models to promote a sportier image. Most likely a new Supra.

Toyota didn't put the GT-S's engine in the MR2 cause the Lift (the kick in power from the VVT-i) would be too hard to handle in the MR2's light and short body. Too hard to handle for the general public any ways. Guys who have done the engine swap from the GT-S to the MR2 say it takes a bit to get used to.
The HP output of the european and american models of the GT-S are the same. HP is rated differently in europe than it is in the US.

The GT-S isn't slow. 0-60 in 6.8 seconds (Road & Track).
The 350Z, the RX-8 and the S2000 are faster than the GT-S, but the GT-S was also a lot cheaper.

 

I cant say anything about the MR-S but I had a MKII MR2 and my brother-in-law has a 2000 GT-S and my old MR2 would spank the celica in every aspect, but especially out of the hole and in the corners, the celica was starved for torque...oh and btw the MR2 was the tamer NA version.

but it does seem like it would be a difficult car to drive... lots of spoiled kids wrapping them instantly...

I think they changed the crossover points with the new corolla xrs... they seem to make less max power in the brochures... but i have yet to see a real dyno chart from one of them...

 

This is not good driving.. I've seen 7.2 0-60 from other magazines for a bone stock tC. 40-50whp is definately going to take off more then .3 seconds with a good driver.

 

The GT-S definately wasn't cheap.. especially when you add the action package..

for the money, 180hp and a very high 14 in the quarter (with a great driver) is quite sad.

 

The elise is lighter than the MR-S and has the 2ZZ.....if anything, the elise might be the reason that it didnt get it.

And I know about the rating system, but the fact is, the JDM celica does have more power than the US version.... you guys have always got shafted in that aspect, probably less so these days though.
