There's more than a few around. They sold like hotcakes like early 2004. But, anyway, I kinda like it :)

i have vis's cf hood with 1'' hood scoop. I say do it, it might be a little big but then again it does look like it might flow with the rest of the car. Only one way to find out, just be sure you make it functional. Otherwise its pointless and a waste. And paint it. :P

Looks great. Is that the OEM scoop? My buddy has a WRX and I was thinking about doing that, but it looked like it was designed to recess into the hood rather than stuck on top of it... do you have any closer pix?

By the way, http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=107268&highlight= if you go there you can check mine out. I know its not quite the same, especially in size but it may give you some sort of idea how this will turn out...or give you new ideas.

looks good killer
the wrx hood scoop is designed to sit a little recessed but im making it sit flat
dont know yet if im going to make it full function(it was free so im not really losing) just something to try
if i really like it then when i get the CAI then maybe do some cutting

thanx for all the comments

Yeah i know how its designed, if you really want the hood scoop make it functional or don't do it at all. Not trying to boss you around or force you into something, but its pointless to have one if theres no reality to it. I would laugh at anyone who has any part like a hood scoop and they just mounted it without making it functional. Its the worst idea in my opinion.

Do what you like, but i'm just trying to help you out a little so don't take this the wrong way.

not taking it wrong at all
i like all the ideas
do you have any pics of how you made yours work
pics of under the hood
when you say functional do you mean just cut a hole so that air can come in or did you make yours a ram style function

Vis hood is made like that, already functional when you get it. In order to make one functional, you'd need to cut or have some one cut the design of the curves and such on the hood. Then mount the hood scoop to the hood, to where its even from hood to scoop. Shave it down and re paint it. Probably missed a few steps, but i've got x5 things going on at the moment. lol

lol
only reason i asked was imho a "functioning" hood scoop is just that one that is "scooping" air for the engine
correct?

Can you get a more close up pic or make the ones you have bigger. It looks good from what i see but, a closer look would be great.

It doesn't scoop air. It just allows free passing air to flow in the bay, which in return allows the motor to cool off slightly faster than usual, as well as run slightly cooler. Yes, its not a huge difference and in terms of performance you won't actually notice any. But the bay gets hot, very hot in some applications. Functional scoops is just one way of many to allow all the heat to go somewhere without being bottled up.

Just curious... does it cover the window washers?

I am not digging that, what kind of wind drag is it going to have on our already windblocking boxes.

But if you like, go for it!

aerodynamics aren't that bad in the box, its very equal to most wagons. Also, wind drag doesn't matter unless your driving 90mph+. I.E top speed.

A non-functioning hood scoop is no more pointless than a rear wing on a front wheel drive box. While neither serves a purpose performance wise, they look cool. Can't wait to see it painted up.

Lund (of all people) makes a WRX copy scoop that looks very promising... I'm considering it because it looks like it sits more flush than the real WRX one.

Disregard the PT application, haha.

I'd rather there be no hood scoop, alot cleaner that way
