Default celica intake for xb

i was looking at a friends celica and noticed that his injen "race devision" cai looked like it would fit the xb. i think the throttle botties are a diff. diam, but that's an easy fix. has anybody tried it? and if someone's already asked, sorry, i used the "search" option and nothing came up. any comments are welcome.

While you're taking parts from the Celica ... I'd be more interested in whether or not the the VVTL-i from the Celica GT-S would fit in the xb ... :?:

to be completely honest, i'm very impatient. the only place i can get an intake for the b, i'd have to wait 2 weeks to get it. they have the celica's there in stock ready to go. i'd get over-night shipping, but then it'd be stupid cause i'd be payin $100 just for that. so really alls it is is that i want it now. so what'd your opinion be.

edit: oh, and the celi intake is about $50 cheaper cause it's been out for a while.

Sure it would fit....take some money...alot of fabrication...some cussing...alot of beer....a few months...some more money....more fabrication and some more beer and you can put that Celica engine right in there

yeah...that'd be nice. but i dont think anybody really has the resources for something like that right now...i mean...you can't even get pully sets for the xb...more or less engine mounts and so on.

from what I've read, the Vitz, Yaris and xA are all the same species.

the L in vvtl-i is Lift...that's Toyota's "vtec" I don't know much more about it, but I've driven my friend's Celica GTS...which has a VVTL-I motor...and yeah, it's hyperspeed... lol

I only know as much as about a quarter of what I've read ... but, I googled and found this ... http://69.93.166.247/FAQ/vvtli.php ... so that you can read it

My thought was that 1.8 is not much larger than 1.5 and the xB has a decent amount of room under the hood ... so maybe the 1.8 would fit.

I also thought that it being a similar engine, everything would mate rather well. One thing I might be scared of though is whether or not the same parts can handle 180hp ... mainly the transmission

... and maybe thinking was my first mistake ... but I can dream right?

We just need someone out there with cash and guts to try it or at least someone out there to give a definitive answer as to why it can't be done.

wickedxb04, sorry to impede on your post, we can get out of here with engine swap talk if you like.

There are countless engines that are better than the 2ZZ-GE, but which is going to be more compatible with the existing parts and room available? I'm sure there are people out there that could throw a V8 in the back of an xB, make it rear wheel drive and run crazy quarters ...

... sorry just trying to stay on track here.

Honestly, I know next to nothing about engine swapping, so, perhaps the 3sgte is a better fit? Will the 3sgte mate with a FWD transmission?

Any techs that know anything about engine swaps want to chime in?

not at all. its just that out of all this, i started out with a question of "would a celica gt intake fit the xb?"...and now i'm at "will the intake fit?", "whats the diff between vvtl-i and vvt-i?", "will the entire celica engine fit in the xb", and "what's the 3sgte engine and what car does it come in?". i guess my question was too broad? either way, i'm new, i want to learn, and that's what i'm doin. thanks everybody for everything.

The Vitz, Varis and xA run off the same platform. But so does the Funcargo, Platz, Echo, xB and so on.

Specifically the Vitz (JPN), Varis (EU), and Echo Hatchback (CA) are all the exact same car. The xA (US) and Ist (JPN) are similar to the "Vitz Family" but don't share the same body.

Eyeballing it, I'd say the xA is larger in every way then a Vitz so thats good news swap wise. :D

I wish I had dimensions of the engines and better pics to make sure that everything really is in the right place ... anyway, I guess if the mechanics and the techs won't put their two cents in this will be a dead thread soon. :? Which really sucks due the potential of the whle thing ...

tasty: naturally asperated 180hp xB
tastier: adding minor upgrades and getting over 200hp
tastiest: adding a charger and reaching for 300!!

oh, the 3sgte is what is in the MR2 ... I think ... which is why I'm not sure if it will mate with a FWD transmission.
