Default 24 hour long drive next week. Any advice?

I am driving from chicago to miami (home) which is a 24 hour 1500 mile drive. Any advice? I just had an oil change. I will bring coffee, redbull, food and my ipod. Anything else I should bring or do to my car?

suggest having your tires checked to besure they are safe for the 1500 miles would suck to get a blow out, explain to them that they are gonna be running 1500 miles 24 hours so they actaully really do look and not say ...yea they look fine, make sure your fluids are full and brakes are good and enjoy your journey give the car a break id say every 500 miles or so unless you plan on cruise driving and not beating the crap out of it to get it there in record time

other than that enjoy the journey !

i would say, try to get most of your driving in during the day time hours, and take lots of breaks when its dark out.

Redbull and Coffee are only going to give you energy spikes, youll be awake for about half an hour, and the time proceeding youre going to fall flat on your face.

Every 2 hours or so get out, walk around, go to the bathroom, drink some gatorade, snap some pictures, and then get back on the road. Nothing is worse than a fatigued driving. Driving for long periods of time also tends to play its tole on your response time.

Dont fall asleep. If you get tired, just pull over somewhere and rest for even 15 mins, you will feel so much better.

i prefer Rockstar over Redbull.. but whatever..

seriously.... take plenty of breaks... don't overdo it.. if you feel tired, stop and get out of the car for a few mintues.. get some fresh air... or take a power nap.

before the trip.. check all your fluids and pressures. other than that... have a safe trip

I know you've done some of this

1) check oil
2) tire pressure
3) make sure you have jumper cables
4) put some stp fuel injector cleaner
5) top off windshield wiper fluid
6) put rain-x on your windshield

for some odd reason when i am falling asleep ( getting drosy ) as the wheel. I pop a mint or a piece of mint flavored gum. Will wake you right up and keep u up cause of chewing.

just did a florida to california trip last month...it took about 1.5 days with a 5 hour sleep break. bring snacks, drinks and a trash bag so your car don't look like s#17 when you get to your destination. follow flow of traffic, the longer the drive the more likely you'll get pulled over. get one of those neck pillows. plan your stops...gas, food and lodging. this will maximize the time you'll spend on the road, not looking for somewhere to eat or sleep. get a room not just for sleep but also for a nice shower..helps refresh your body. leave at dawn so you can cover more ground.

as far as your car, routine maintenance includes oil change, tire inspection/rotation, check all fluid levels, check brakes

Gum and snacks to munch on are always something that help keep me going on long drives. That and make sure you have some water to drink. Being dehydrated can make you feel sleepy. (that.. or having to pee really bad would keep you awake, lol!)
Have someone that you can call to chat with at times too. That makes time pass a little faster.

And of course the advice that others made about making sure your car is ready to go.

I drove from Pittsburgh to SC last year overnight and it only took me 10 hours so my advice is to drive at night when there's no traffic, but that's just me. Make sure you have a good stash of caffeine pills, too.
