Default Warranty Service - Will there be a charge?

I think I have a leak somewhere on my tC. I swiped the ground and it was a black residue. I would assume the Basic Warranty would cover this? My friend insists that there will be a service charge if ithey find something minor like A/C condensation building up. Can anyone confirm if the warranty should cover items like this? Thanks

Hey Bandit, thanks for replying. I have no clue, it's an oily residue that appears on the ground periodically for the past 2-3 weeks. I went in for my first oil change last weekend, and the leak is still appearing so I don't think it's a loose oil plug. So it might be a leak somewhere else or A/C condensation building up? My friend was saying I would get charged a fee if it was something insigificant, like an A/C condensation building up, but I said most things should be covered by the basic warranty. I'm a month into my car ownership so yea I'm covered hehe....

even if the a/c drain plug was clogged, its no charge to you
they CAN charge you, but if the issue is warranty related then you do not pay
but they may say up front, if not covered, you may have to pay small charge
but it varies from dealer-dealer and ASM to ASM

i dont charge for these small issues, its pointless. turns customers away from coming back to me in the future for services.

it may be the oil they did not clean off when they did ur LOF, which happens alot

^^^ makes some good points.

Also, my dealership has been suprisingly good about performing services that fall into the "gray area" of warranty coverage, without any charge.

Take 'er in...they will not charge you for this....(i hope)

black residue will not be from the AC. What part of the car is it under exactly? Is it happening all the time or only while running or just after turning it off?

Are we talking about the condensation from using the AC? If so, it's normal.
If it's not water, it may be a bigger problem...get it checked.

If you have maintained your car and are under the warranty time and mileage, there really should be be no "leak(ed)black residue" on the ground that would have come from your car. (Unless of course, you are confusing the dripping condensation from your air conditioner.)

In any event, there will be a charge for the dealer to identify and repair whatever the issue may be, but if you are under warranty they will bill Toyota, not you. (Unless you have not maintained the vehicle as expected or modified it in some way that will provide them a plausible reason to charge you.)

So, if your Tees are crossed and your Eyes are dotted and you are under warranty....you will not have to pay. Go get it checked.

Thanks for the replies. I've noticed the dripping occurs infrequently. I checked the last 2 days, and it appeared there was no leak. I noticed this happened after I dinged up my stone shield, but I don't think that would cause a leak. The only thing that's disconcerting was that the liquid material was black. I've had the car for only less than a month so I think I've maintained it pretty well ;-)

it could be as simple as a bad o-ring on the oil plug. Just take it in and they will fix it

SHouldnt be a charge. Take it in and see what they say. I stop in to my dealer/parts department every few weeks just to say hi. It makes it so much easier to deal with them when it comes to stuff like this. I little friendlyness (a$$ kissing some may say) goes along way when it comes to car work.

Anything that goes wrong with the car, and is your your fault from modification/tampering, will be covered under warrantee without charge. Like stated above must be within the 3yr/36k mile bumper to bumper, or if powertrain related 5yr/60k mile.
