The problem is the design of the car. The front windshield sits too perpendicular to the road. That and the front isnt very aerodynamic, so any debris that is flying through the air hits the windshield like a brick wall.

The windshield angle, height and aerodynamics is not much different than my old Datsun 510 which didn't have any particular problems. My feeling is that the windshield glass now made isn't as tough as it used to be. It certainly picks up little nicks and scratches easily.

However, keep in mind that this is a forum of hundreds of new Scion owners, which tends to amplify problems. Only those who have problems talk about it. Nobody is going to post "gee, my windshield is perfect today!"

Yeah i just got yestarday a NICE spider web on the center of my windsheild.... damn it!!!!

hell the first day i got mine i got a chip in my windsheild the only bad thing i have to say about the xb is the windsheid hell why do they call it a windsheild anyways should be called a windalmostsheild cuase now i get a bit of a brezze from it lol

Two days after instaling my second windshield it happens I get a small chip on my way to work

anyone know of a nice after market place that sells windshield that are like extra-strength?

I just lowered my comprehensive deductable to $50 on my auto insurance. Now if I have to replace it, it wont cost too much. I've already had a glass repair man out to fix 2 chips on 2 different occasions. Luckily, usaa covers glass repair. No charge! SWEEEET! 8) 8) 8)

i had a chip free scion for about 3 weeks. it happens, just a matter of when not if.

Gee. If I didn't know better I'd think you all lived here. 8)

My dealer told me about the "Lemon" thing... I was wondering, if i keep having to replace my windshield, could i almost call into the Lemon? Or does that have to be with warrenty items only?

i'm part of the club now too with a quarter sized spider and my xb has less than 1000 miles!

no chips or cracks here 5 months strong and almost 5000 on odo. and still going.

I don't think it counts as a lemon. You knew it had a big rectangular windshield... the solution? Leave more space between you and the car in front of you. Try it... it really works!!!

Or does that have to be with warrenty items only? lemon law only on manufacturer's defects in product, no defect in product if stuff hits you. mine got hit after 7K miles, ask yr dealer if they have a guy that fixes spiders, they most likely have a guy for the used stuff that'll come by every now and again. they can fill it in so it doesn't require a full replacement. it is always a case-by-case basis.

500 miles and counting........I use geico and have non deductable glass coverage.....Arizona loves to eat windshields

Move to FL - if you have comprehensive, and your windshield breaks, it gets replaced for free with no detriment to your insurance rates :)

That said, I've never had a problem with the windshield.

Crack in windshield within one month, right in the center and I'm murdering bugs at an alarming rate. Definetly an aerodynamics issue.

no cracks, chips, or scrathes here...but i DO have a blown engine ( see i blew up my xb yesterday )...and the bug thing....i have about 300 cacada's caked onto my windsheild...it gets to the point where i have to get out of the car on the side of the road and s c r u b them off...

had my pw four days,got a crack in my line of sight,so new my insurance isnt posted yet,I will have to wait a few days,then order one.

Guess i am an unfortunate member of this club too. Two months and bam i have a small hole as well. Luckily I have USAA too and they didn't charge me to repair. I can still tell there it is there though b/c of a small bubble.

<----- That many miles (a little more, now), almost four months, lots of highway miles, and still not a knick or chip! 8)

Im a member of the club also. BTW have any of you noticed if your frony lip is full of tiny chips and bumps from road debris?

I've travelled to LA, Las Vegas, California Coast, Etc. A big rock hit the front of my windshield a little past stockton but that didn't crack the windshield. A few weeks later i'm three cars behind a construction truck (3 trailer deals) carrying rocks. I was behind three SUV's with the usual 3 car lengths and a small rock smacks the bottom part of my windshield causing a 6 inch crack that eventually got longer and curved left.

How much is a new windshield? i will probably wait till the crack gets long.

My front has many small chips and the front lip and upper bumper isn't as shiny since the past winter with road debris and sand.

Yeah I have the same bug problem but no cracks 8) . I've found that steel wool takes the bugs right off.

I have 3 chips in mine after having it for 3 months and a little over 6000 miles.

For Jugglah: All of my chips came from vehicles passing me going the other direction.

My New Xb just got a nice crack in it from a rock as well.....

315 bucks to replace the windshield......

500 dollar deductable....

so all out of pocket...... LAME!
