Default So I Lost My One And Only Key...

So heres my story. When I bought my tC from the dealership (Was not toyota) It only came with one key. Now today, I went snowboarding and lost my key. I was quoted 300 dollars for a replacement and I was like eff that. So I went on ebay and ordered another key. Ive read the topic about reprogramming the keyless entry but my problem is the transponder chip. How will I bypass that in order to use my car which I of course need on a daily basis. Not only that, I cannot open my car to access my items inside.

Help?

You are S.O.L.! You NEED to get that chipped key programmed to your vehicle so that you can start your tC. No way around it...

Go to a Toyota/scion dealership and have them program your new key. That's the only way since you don't have a transponder at all. Bring proof that you own your car, I am not sure if the dealership needs to see your car. But I think that might be the case. so you may have to have it towed there. Tough break man.

The only other way would be perhaps ask the dealership where you bought it from if they could call the previous owner and ask if they still have to the two other keys. It's a long shot ...

Good luck either way.

It takes a tech like 3 min to get it programed but from what I know you do need to have the car on site. The only thing you can do is unlock the car with the key by itself. The car will not start unless you get a tech to do it.

I would go find a tech at a dealer that's walking around and offer him 20 bucks to do it, I bet he will.

Maybe your best bet is to talk to a Scion dealership and see what they say. They might be able to figure something out that none of us can think of. Good luck.

seems like everyone is having this problem (i've read other threads). When I got my car, they gave me a code that they say they would need from me if I ever losted my keys...they said the "code" prevents people from obtain copies of keys if the car wasn't theirs...i dunno?
