View Full Version : Is bluetooth possible with factory HU (and other questions)

Hi guys. My new tC is having all the dealer accessories installed today. I'm planning the stereo, and I've got several questions. I'm not so concerned with a big system, as with features of that system...I'm much more into gadgets and quality sound with a flat, clean response than I am high volume and big bass, so if the factory speakers drive me nuts, I'll replace them. I'd rather not do so though.

Any answers would be appreciated. I searched around, but didn't find anything answering my questions very well. I'm trying to keep the questions to stuff that I can't find out without taking apart the dash.

1. Are there any options for getting bluetooth hooked into the factory system, or do I need a new head unit? Things like phone-mute, audio functions through the speakers, etc.

2. If I do get a new head unit, will it just plug into the factory sub, or will I have to run my own RCA cables and buy a new amp at the same time? That's kind of a pain in the ___, so I'd prefer to avoid it if possible.

3. If I want to replace the factory sub, can I just drop a new 10" into the factory box? How much depth do I have to work with? etc.

4. Are there any modules that'll tap a custom HU into the factory steering wheel controls?

You can probably tell, I'd like to get the features I want with as little work as possible. I've done my share of custom installs, and it's really not my thing anymore.

replacing the deck renders the fact sub useless... theres a way to do it i am sure...

i can get factory subs working in other cars... i dont see why its not possible on the tc

fact box is super shallow... gonna be hard to drop a different sub in there... better off just not getting it and get your own...

and yeah... you can get modules to keep the fact controls working with an aftermarket headunit...

the factory box is ported, so you'd have to block off the port to swap the sub for something else... also, you'd want to remove the amplifier and make sure the enclosure volume will suffice for the sub going into the factory box.... people have done it before, I suggest just getting an aftermarket sub to cover the low range and balance out whatever speakers you get/have...

If you just want balance and a flat response without the super boom, look into Elemental Design's Eu-700's... they're a 6.5" multi-purpose woofer (sealed, ported, infinite baffle/mid-bass, sub-bass) with 150RMS handling and 13mm p2p xmax... I've got 2 in a 30Hz ported box and they can hit "Lil Jon" low or super fast and accurate for music such as Slipknot or Mudvayne.... in a sealed box, the SQ would just improve and the response flatten... which sounds like what you're looking for..

Yeah, I actually thought the factory box was sealed, (didn't see a port when I glanced at it), and that's what I would be putting in myself. I have no clue what sort of volume it's got, so a drop-replacement is a maybe. I wonder if there are any custom off the shelf enclosures. I like the way the stock one is built around the trunk's side.

I'll check out the Elemental thing though. I'd prefer to not replace the sub at all, but if I have to run new wires and an amp anyway, it might turn out that way.

(sheez, car's not even purchased, and I'm already thinking a lot bigger than I wanted to. :) )

^^ I'm not sure if anyone knows the volume of it.... easiest way to find out would be to take it out and fill it with packing peanuts, then measure the amount of packing peanuts that filled the enclosure in a 12x12x12 box (1cu.ft.)

not to move this topic away from subs, but anyone know if blue tooth can be used with the AVIC-D1? I have the Ipod and Tv Tuner to go with it already.
