Default Crank Pulley w/ Vibration Damper???

Are there any after market crank pulleys that have a vibration damper? Does the stock pulley have one? I'd like to do this mod, but I don't want to take any chances with my engine. I've searched, but I couldn't find anyone that had addressed this issue.

Thanks!

It costs wayyy too much to put a damper into the new crank pulleys. Nobody would want to pay 300 or 500 dollars for a pulley that's not worth that high of an amount.

So the stock pulley does have a vibration damper then, is that correct? Is the damper on there because of the weight of the stock pulley? I guess I'm just wondering why it is ok to have a lightweight pulley without a damper?

The stock pulley has the damper. Without one, the chance that frequency vibrations will destroy parts of your engine rise high enough to the point that it's not worth doing.

If you're going to gamble on destroying your engine, at least make worthwhile gains will doing so.

Thanks. From the info provided, I think I should stay away from this mod...I'm not the gambling type!

I swear, this topic seems to come up every few days!

There are a few on the internet who will tell you to stay away from pulleys at all costs. They say pulleys will harm your engine and swear that they will destroy your accessories, your oil pump, your bearings, your crank. Hell running aftermarket crank pulleys can even jump inside your car and steal your hot date away!

Then there are the few, the brave, the proud owners of cars with crank pulleys. 99% of which swear up and down that they have used pulleys for years and years and have never had any problems to report of!

I've been running NST pulleys myself over the past few years and have probably logged over 60,000 miles without any problems to report of. I would never go back to stock

I'm still not sold on it. Seems like a reasonably inexpensive mod with decent gains, but I can't get past the fact that the stock pulley has a damper on it, effectively making this mod different than stock in more ways than just weight.

all the questions you are asking have been discussed up and down this forum. but the only people who can give you an honest answer about puttin a aftermarket pulley in your car are the people who are actually using them. all i can tell you is that when i first got my NST underdrive crank pulley, i felt a really good difference in throttle response and i was happy i chose this mod. you wont be dissappointed if you choose to grab this mod, especially if you choose NST. i have been running this pulley for well over 20,000 on my tC, and no problems at all. the NST guys have been running pulleys in there car for way longer than me, and still nothing. NST makes some high quality products, you wont be dissapointed. and i hope this helps you towards buying some pulleys...

I was going to do the ZPI pulley but I'm doing a flywheel here in a few months and I figure I'll just keep my crank pulley because I don't think it will be noticable after a lightweight flywheel anyways, but I could be wrong.

Oh man I hope you're doing the flyhweel install yourself or you're going to get owned on labor for digging through your supercharger ><

The lightweight flywheel is definitly worth the money though. Absolutely no detrimental effects from it.

Why would you need to remove any of the s/c for a flywheel install? I didnt know the s/c hardware ran under the tranny.
