The one thing i miss the most on my Scion is cruise control. I do a LOT of highway driving, and my foot gets tired after awhile. This can't cost toyota more than 20 dollars to include in the car, considering it uses existing parts.

PLEASE add this Scion.

on a side note - anyone know where i can find an aftermarket cruise control system?

The Southeast Toyota region has a port installed system available for the xA and the xB. Toyota does not offer cruise at all on them.

well i know here in texas it isn't an option. I didn't even see it on the website as an option. Would i have been better off buying the car from a southeast dealer then?

Why is it only regional? Are there more freeway drivers in the southeast? I think Scion should make it national, the whole arguement that it is regional only furthers the issue.

The Southeast Region is an independent distributor, not owned by Toyota. They offer their own port installed accessories like alarms and the "Toyo Guard" package.

The thing is that those accessories are not warranted by Toyota, so if you go to a dealer outside that area, they can't warranty it. I know because we've had some customers that have moved here, and weren't real happy that we couldn't fix their "factory" alarm system, for example. :(

Yeah... we have had alot of questions about cruise control on the xA and xB. Since they are 'urban' vehicles, the powers that be up at Toyota didn't see fit to include it as an option. Good news though: cruise control is standard on the tC.

Cruise control would be nice, It certainly does make long term highway driving a bit easier on the feet, but its something I can live without. Toyota of Lake Norman said they could install cruise control for 200 or 300 dollars, I forget exactly how much, but I do agree it should be standard. If they drop the price to something like 100 or less I would get it installed, but 200-300 seems a bit too high.

I've barely ever used cruise in all my previous cars that had it so I don't miss it.

It's pretty useless, if you ask me. Unless you have the entire highway clear to yourself, you wind up roaring up on some slowpoke's ___ every 10 minutes or so and having to tap the brakes before you smash into him, thereby turning off the cruise control. Or... if you are one of the slowpokes, then you can sit in the slow lane at 55 mph while everyone else drives up your ___.

It's useless in traffic, which is the most tiring aspect of driving. It seeems pretty useless on a wide open road too, push the button and then twist your foot awkwardly to avoid hitting the gas pedal. Not terribly practical IMO. It's just another device, like the automatic transmission, that serves to remove the driver and his or her attention from the driving experience and that's rarely a good thing in my experience. Cruise is responsible for plenty of accidents I'm sure.

If you really can't live without it, you can easily buy the accessory and have the dealer install it.

You'd be surprised how many lazy drivers are out there.

Personally, even though I've got some long trips planned for my box in the coming months, I couldn't care less about cruise. Like you said, it's almost too much of a hassle since highways are so rarely clear of obstacles (like old people).

have it (stock on tC), have yet to use it (hey, I'll sell it for $350!!!!). I usually like to drive fast, and I'll drive faster without it. Will have to see what happens when I go for a road trip, but so far I'm having way too much fun driving to feel the need for it.

The Echo, which the xA and xB are based on, doesn't offer cruise either. It's probably because they were originally designed as city cars for the Japanese market, and so they decided not to even engineer cruise into them.

Ther is a part # for the toyota dealer installed cruise. Don't have the number but any toyota parts counter can get the #. At one time it was on backorder. My BOX came with cruise because it is a port installed option in the south eastern district.

Only dealer in the SET region can order that. Again, that is not a factory Toyota part.

well thats strange seeing as how its the same part number is used for the echo cruise. sounds like the dealer is too lazy to look it up for you.

That's pretty good if they can modify a system that is not even sold as a kit, from another car, and make it fit a different car that even the steering wheel is not made to have a cruise switch, and sell it for less than what it costs us install an aftermarket unit! What year Camry is the system from?

cruise control is a $350 option at my dealer. Totally worth it since i drive alot.

I thought there is an after market cruise control from rostra... which should be the same one that toyota would use if they had CC on our cars.

I'm not a real big fan of CC either. Personally i think it causes a few headaches, that said though... there've been a couple of times on in the xB where my leg tires out and I wished something like CC could take over, just for a few seconds. On other cars this never seems to happen, but I guess the high wind resistance against the xB makes it more apparent.

I dont think having a cruise control has anything to do with laziness just more like if you have a lead foot. Not having a cruise control in a car is like not having a remote for a huge bigscreen tv. Just would not make any sense.
