I was in Immokalee at the 1/8 mile track yesterday.. I ran into a '91 CRX, completely gutted.. stock engine with stock internals.. These were his only mods:

1. really crappy looking slicks (they might of just been bald tires)
2. new pressure plate (everything else on the clutch was completely stock)
3. completely gutted.. just 1 seat in the entire car, pretty much nothing else. (weighed in at 2050lbs.)
4. here's the kicker.. a 150 shot of nitrous.. I believe it was a wet kit.

now, all day long the guy was running a very low 8.. I think he dipped into the 7s once. in the quarter he was running a 12.6 (not sure what the trap speed was)

he told me that he has gone 250+ passes.. each one of them spraying a 150shot. no problems with the engine, and no mods to the internals what so ever.

How is this possible? Is the 1.6 SOHC really that strong?

I highly doubt my tC would hold a 150shot more then twice.

yeah, that's what I was leaning towards.. He didn't have any proof other then going down the track over 15 times, spraying everyone of them... the car had 2 15LB. bottles.

even 15 times in 1 day of a 150shot amazes me..

We asked him what engine he had swapped in there... And he told us it was the stock 1.6 SOHC engine. Then he popped the hood for us and everything.

It looked all stock other then a home-depot-autozone rigged up ghetto intake & the nitrous lines.

I saw him run down the track at least 7 of the runs.. each time he hit between a 8.1 and an 8.4.. there's not a chance he's running that without spraying.

At the end of the day he didn't drive it home, but he drove it up on his really crappy trailer (looked like a boat trailer with plywood layed across it) and off he goes.

Back when, I had a CRX 1.6 and at 95K miles it was already running hot due to engine wear. It did not hold up nearly as well as I thought and I was NOT a street racer.

IMO, when you have an engine under 2 liters you should be looking to trade before 50K miles--you already gotten the best out of it.

Small engines really churn hard.
