Default RS2 Muffler - Japan Only

My RS 2 came with a different muffler than the stock xB. It wasn't added by the dealer, it came from Japan that way. But last week the short pipe with resonator fell off while driving down a smooth road. I heard the "*****" of it hitting the inside of the bumper and watched it bounce like a tennis ball as I continued to drive along at 40mph.

It took a quarter mile to get to a place where I could turn around and when I got back to see what it was I found a dented and scratched tail pipe end, still a bit warm.

I went to the Toyota dealership immediately. The Service Writer said the weld broke internally (inside the muffler). He also said the whole muffler would have to be replaced and the muffler for the RS 2 is not stocked, meaning, special order. He also said that driving the car like this would damage the bumper because the hot exhaust would melt it.

Turns out the muffler for the RS 2 has to come from Japan and I am still driving a rental more than a week later. Four Toyota dealerships in the area all couldn't find the muffler for the RS 2. The only source was Toyota in Japan!

You should have just gotten $$ for it, and bought an aftermarket one.

It crossed my mind, but it is still under warranty. Also, I like the sound of my old muffler, with the resonator.

The rental is being provided free by the dealership. Nice car - 2006 Avalon.

I just did some searching, it's actually happened to 2 other members:

and

Problem seems to be weak welds.

Anyone know if there is a service flash on this problem? I would like to get it taken care of while still under warranty if the part is going to fail soon.

More like five or six cars now. After three trips to the dealership I finally got mine
replaced this last Sunday. It sure is a lot quieter now.

It is just a RS 2.0 badged DC sports axel back exhaust. It only took three days to
get to Atlanta once they figured out that the parts computer has the removable
silencer listed as the whole exhaust.

Well, I got my car back today. The dealer had to order the muffler from Japan. It is definitely not the stock muffler but it is the one Toyota put on the RS 2s, therefore subject to warranty.

Something to keep in mind at around 150k miles and I will start thinking about replacing it.

Watch, mine will fall off too, and the @ssholes at the dealership will tell me i hit something because i'm lowered, or point at my wheels and say, "you have aftermarket stuff, we can't help you". Ugh, i'm gonna have to go to WalMart and buy one of the blow up puching bags and label it "Toyota Service Rep"

I have the 7-spoke alloys, but those came from the dealership as well. The only thing I have added is cruise control. And yes, they balked at that. Before they would test drive the car they disconnected it. Petty.

I expected to get hassled about my supercharger and being lowered but the only
thing that happen was a work stoppage when every mechanic in the shop had to spend
ten minutes looking at my engine.
