Default Question about aftermarket exhaust systems in general

Is there such a thing as an aftermarket exhaust system that increases performance, but does not make the car louder or harsher in terms of vibration? I like the idea of being able to modify performance that way (simple, replaceable), but I have no desire to make it louder or arouse the ire of the neighbors. Not making a criticism of anyone else, just stating my preferences.

Thanks for the help.

The reality of exhaust systems on the xB is that they really don't do much in the way of performance gains on their own. Even when used in conjunction with other modifications like intake and header, the gains are still marginal. Don't count on more than about a 3 hp gain. Exhaust for the xB really are more about the sound.

That being said there are a couple of higher flow, quiet options out there for the xB. Neither is as quiet as stock, but they are about as quiet as you will get from the aftermarket. One is the Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper. The other is the Greddy SP2.

Here is the Tanabe (laying in it's side)...

Here is the Greddy (not the actual xB model)...

Beyond these readily available aftermarket options your best bet is going to a VERY GOOD muffler shop and have them build you something custom. And you will want to go to a shop that has experience with small displacement 4 cylinder engines. Not just some hole in the wall that swaps out rusted truck mufflers for glass packs.

I hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

HKS HI-Power isn't too loud. It's actually fairly quiet with a nice deep tone.
