Im 15, and i don't know what would be better for me to get for my first car.
An Automatic, or a Manual. I'd rather have a Manual but i don't want to break my first car. What should i do?

learn to drive manual on your friend's car. that way you can break theirs. j/k :D
go with whatever you think is best for you. go to a dealership and take a manual out for a drive. it only takes five minutes to learn.

Buy a stick. Honestly it isn't that hard. I tought myself how too @ 17. I went to the car dealer asked to drive a truck he had on the lot. And took off in it. I Came back a 1/2 hour later and bought it. IMHO if you can't drive a stick shift you can't drive.

lol....i got my permit at 15.
as for auto or stick, it all depends on you. auto is easier to drive (ovbioulsy) but the stick is more fun (imo). as for me, i'm going with an auto, i'm gettin lazy in my old age

Permit? Drivingschool? Drivers Ed? I never took any of that. know a driving school instructor. He gave me a signed paper thingy that approved my driving skills. So all i had to do is take it to the dmv and right there i took my written test and passed the first time. I then got my DRIVERS LICENSE. Tight i was about 15 and a half. Only thing is that i had to drive a astro van for half a year 8) . lol. yeah i am a nerd.

Good luck but i now have a thundercloud 5 speed. MANUAL

manual. Best to learn to drive them and it's easiest when you are young. Everyone should know how to drive one.

Definately get the 5-speed. This car is slow enough with a manual transmission, I'd probably shoot myself if I had an autotragic (no offense to the automatic owners ;) ).

The only thing good I can say about having an automatic on any car is the ease of driving in rush hour traffic. Grinding down the road with a stick can be a bit of a pain in the butt at times.

ya, but boy is it great to have a manual on an empty freeway!!!

The biggest factor is where you live. Are you going to be stuck in traffic a lot? I used to live in NYC(Queens) and it sucked bad when I had a manual. I suffered every time I got stuck in traffic and it was often. Now that I live further up north, away from NYC traffic, the manual is great. That's probably the biggest thing to factor in when choosing between the two. It isn't that much faster with manual but it is definitely more fun to drive.

I think Rayman brings up a good point...it def. depends on how you're going to drive it everyday. I used to live in CA and I couldn't imagine driving a manual in that traffic everyday...but now that I'm in PA manual is the way to go...

I live in Ca and the their is ussually not much traffic. (esspiecially the hours i drive)

I sell cars (obviously by the name  ) and when I get someone in that does not know how to drive a stick but wants one, I get them in a POS in the back of our lot and let them go crazy.

But that is just me I guess. I don't listen to their rules  and I never hear anything about it as long as I continue to sell cars.

You don't need to be driving around when you're fifteen, that's for damn sure. Your parents are being smart by not letting you drive around.

Here in RI you have to take drivers' ed to get your permit (with which you can drive only with your parents) which you have for 6 months before you get your license. Personally I think graduated licensing laws are unjust (a 16 year old can't vote!) and dumb, but you really shouldn't be out on the road with a bunch of kids in the car on your 16th birthday. It's not safe.

As for automatic/stick, learn to negotiate traffic in an automatic, then learn how to drive a stick on empty roads. After that make the decision based on where you live.

The only cars I've ever driven have been manuals. Getcha one, don't getcha one, I really don't give a ____. You're getting on my nerves. Stop wasting space.

I learned to drive when I was about 12 or 13 years old out on some land we have. AWAY from any other drivers or hazards, my dad MADE me drive the first time. He said "Son it's time you learn to drive." and he didn't give me a choice, he sat there and explained everything to me and then I learned how to drive in a '93 Toyota supercab 4x4 pickup...and yes it was a manual, and yes it was frustrating the first time, but then it became FUN! My first truck was an auto, my second was a stick, my third was an auto, my fourth was an auto, and my box is an auto. I liked driving the stick in the Silverado I had, but it became a pain in the ___ when you're driving and someone calls you on your cell right as you need to shift...or you're trying to do anything else in a car that requires one hand, and the other needs to be on the wheel. And if you ever get stuck in traffic, it will be hell on your clutch leg. To tell you the truth, with these cars, there's not going to be a big difference between auto and stick, it's not going to be as noticeable as a Vette or anything high performance.

But hell, to each their own...you may love it, you may hate it. Oh and you don't NEED to drive...you WANT to drive. It's not like you have a job and need to commute to work everyday.

I taught my wife to drive a stick when she moved in with me. Everything we own now is manual. We both prefer them. I taught her how to drive a stick in under an hour. When we were done she was starting from a dead stop on hills with gravel roads. You want to drive & that is fine. I've been driving regurly for 16 years and a stick shift for 13 years. I was the same way and wanted to drive by myself at your age. I got my permit at 14 (I live in arkansas) but that means you have to drive with an adult supervising you in the car. When I turned 16 I got my licence and procedded to dumb stuff in cars. Its a wonder I survived. You can get a hardship license at 14 here also but that means you have to PROVE you NEED to drive. Basicly you come from a low income family in a rural area and you are only allowed to drive to school and work. If your going to get a licence you need a job and insurance. Unless your one of those lame kids who expects Mom & Dad to get you a car and pay for all your crap. Buy a repair manual and some tools so when you want that AEM intake or to add some bling to ride you don't have to pay someone else. My first ride was a '79 Blazer with a 454 and 44" super swampers on it. I learned how to work on cars out of neccesity. 44" tires and big tires + a 16 year old driver = a lot of broken parts. Low cash + broken parts = do it yourself. Dad tought me good though he said ok son heres the tools I have go get a repair manula and have fun. You you need anymore tools you'll need to borrow them or buy them yourself. LOL you should see the crap I've collected over the years!

Pleeese.. don't get on whether the kid can drive or not.. we don't know him/her..
I know a few 12 year old champion KART racers that have been driving -FAST- since the age of 6! They would EASILY rip ANY of us to shreds on the track.. and I drive SCCA! One of-em is even a girl.. They are all either NASCAR or FORMULA ONE bound! Kids can KICK ___ when taught well!
