View Full Version : production set back?

I have no idea if this is actually true, but when asking my scion dealer about the test drive car, they said that production is set back b/c of someone falling in a press at the factory. It lead to a week of no work being done. Only investigation on how the fatality occurred. Anywho, the scion rep said that the test drive models won't be out to early-mid june now. But fortunately he also said that they should still be on time for the roll out of mid to late June. Anybody else hearing similar things?

Have not hear anything differently. But what I have heard in the last several weeks is that majority of dealers will not get ANY tCs until June 21-25.

Since I will most likely be buying one (once I test drive, etc.), I am having my local dealer get the allocation for the tC based on my specs. So if I like, I can just buy their first allocation tC.

I have not heard that, it is still possible. But many dealers dont seem to have a clue. I asked a dealer here in Atlanta when he thought the tC would be here. He said the release date had been delayed till august.

scion said june 23rd, im sticking to that. if it is going to be delayed then whats the point of having all these tC's driving around right now?

There was a fatality at the plant, which is the first in years for Toyota. They DID shut the line down for a week, which will push the release date back. The release date that Scion is shooting for now is July 4. Now, the cars may be on the ground before then, but no one really knows.

I feel badly for the family of the worker. Toyota has safe facilities - this is terribly unfortunate.

I confirmed with Scion that the tC demo cars are going to be in the dealers over fourth of July weekend. The car won't go on sle until the end of July. Okay time for the good news......you can now build your tC on line. For me i am looking at $19,000...without wheels

This may be a clue. They removed a link under the events calendar called "take a Scion Tc test drive." It said that test drive tours would start in Denver on June 10 and Miami June 17. I live in Colorado and was looking forward to a test drive June 10.

The link was there yesterday. It is gone today.

it goes to show how dangerous vehicle production work is... my sympathy goes out to family .

As for the release date... it'll be interesting to see what the actual date will be due to this unfortunate incident.

How many TCs is Toyota expecting to release in the U.S. on its launch date? anyone know? ...

obviously the rep who was at my dealer yesterday talking about how they can expect the tC earlier than anticipated hadn't heard the sad news.

when i was at a local scion dealership yesterday putting down my deposit, the district sales manager mentioned that my particular location would be getting the tc allocation a couple of weeks earlier than everyone else.

from my understanding they wouldnt be allowed to sell it before anyone, but they may have test models available for driving.

Eh, I still rather wait for an official notice from Scion but so many people are talking about this that I guess it is true...talk about horrible circumstances...

A worker really did die in the factory. It is sad, I dont mind the tC being delayed another few weeks if it will save lives. Here is the story btw:

My guess: The first shipment (and maybe the second) is already in the US (or on the way on way on a ship), so they will release it on time. However, the second shipment will be delayed due to the accident. That is, there will be a small amount of cars on the release date, then none for awhile. I doubt they are going to move back the offical release date to July, after they publicized it as being June so much, but after the first six or twelve people at each dealership get their cars, there won't be any more for a month.

Earlier in this thread I said that a listing about the test drive tour was gone from the web site. Actually it is still there, just lower on the event list and therefore not visible unless you scroll down to it. It still says that the test drive tour starts in Denver on June 10th. I chatted with Scion about this. The rep said that as far as he knew it is still on.

I asked about the accident. He said that unfortunately he was unable to comment on it. To me that says he knows about it.

it's not terribly unbelievable that the release date could get knocked back. originally it was scheduled for june 3rd, now 23rdish, now who knowsish. a couple weeks ago i kept hounding my rep about the release date, i thought she was joking about the july release.

Hi guys, I am new to the forum so forgive my newb-ness.

I have been looking for a new car since April and my preferences have ranged from a Sentra to Camry. When I saw the Tc I was like.. omg!!!

Anyway sucks to hear about the production delay. I just chatted on the scion site with a rep and she confirmed that Demos wont be released till early July and actual vehicles a few weeks later

Anyway I guess I'll be calling Scion dealers to see if I can get a good spot on a waitlist. Any dealers in OC able to do the hookup?

Below is actual chat write up that I had:

Well, we anticipate that all Scion dealers will have a tC available for test driving purposes by 4th of July weekend. The vehicles should be available to purchase in mid-to-late July.
Kevin: What happened to the June 23rd launch?
Nicole: We recommend that you contact your local Scion dealer to determine if they have a wait list &/or if they are taking deposits.
Nicole: It is possible that the vehicles will arrive sooner, but we cannot guarantee.
Nicole: Some dealers may have the vehicle by the original date, but based on the location it may take slightly longer

So it will depend on what state you are located to the actual date but by late July everybody should be able to at least test drive/order their car.

I wish it was a rumor  ...I also chatted with Scion and they gave an estimate of mid to late July. It is delayed by a month....I had already made vacation plans and everything. The only reasons I don't just bolt and buy a Mazda 3 is because I already have all the information about my loan for the tC and all the standard options...

Eh, I guess this is sucky part about putting a deposit down for a car: still no guarantee of when it comes out, just that you will get the car first.

Please wait for a Scion Customer Advocate to respond. You are number 1 in queue.
You are now chatting with Troy
dustin: hi
Troy: Hi Dustin!
Troy: How may I help you today?
dustin: i saw this on scion life and was woundering if it was true?
dustin: I have no idea if this is actually true, but when asking my scion dealer about the test drive car, they said that production is set back b/c of someone falling in a press at the factory. dustin: for the tc
Troy: Okay, go ahead, what's your question?
Troy: I'm with you, hang on a second...
Troy: It's true, there was a fatality, but we have not heard of it slowing production at all.
dustin: bummer
dustin: im sorry about that
Troy: The vehicles are scheduled to be released beginning June 23rd, and all dealerships should have atleast one by the 4th of July weekend.
Troy: Yeah, it's pretty tragic.

Mia: Hi this is Mia
Mia: How may I assist you?
Corey B.: Good afternoon, I was just going to ask Mia about the tC. I already put a deposit down expecting the car to come out in June but everyone is now telling me that this is coming out in July...is that true?
Mia: Yes that is true
Corey B.: How late in July is the launch date? I was planning on taking a vacation on July 4th weekend...now I probably will have to cancel :(.
Mia: Towards the end of July. Each dealer will receive a demonstration vehicle by 4th of July weekend.
Corey B.: So, there isn't a way that I might get the car by 4th of July? Oh man, this is a disaster (personally speaking)...
Mia: No.
Mia: I apologize for the delay. That is why we did not release an official launch date.
Corey B.: Yea, but I was expecting June...website still says June and even today I am still getting mixed messages. Well, no use crying over spilled milk...thanks Mia. You have been helpful though :^)...that should be it.
Mia: Sorry again...I understand

Either these chat representatives all haven't heard yet or they are working on rumor just like we are.

basic customer service: Tell them only the information they need to know.

The Tc will be delayed.

The last thing you want is to have people think of the Tc as being conected to anything bad, in this case a production line death. I feel sorry for the family of the worker killed, but I will not be upset at all because the release date is pushed back.

It gets here when it gets here. Besides it gives me that much more time to keep saving the down payment up & more time to sell my current car.

It could very well be that they were going to push the release date back anyways, we may never know.

one thing we can definitely hope for is that they are playing it safe and living by one of Toyota's customer service motto's:

"under-promise and over-deliver"

if you've got a customer wanting to know when their dealer trade is coming in, if you know it'll be here in 2 days you say 4-5, that way you've got a safe out AND when it's here early you look good and they're very happy.

or maybe we'll all just have to quit whining and just wait because it's only a car. it's a pretty big setback for Toyota, and I think a lot of us are forgetting that someone DIED over this.

I just have to comment on that last part about someone dying (because I seem to be the only one kinda showing a lot of disappointment); I understand being sympathetic but I have to be brutally honest: the car being delayed will effect my life more then the plant worker's death. Is it sad? Most certainly...to go to work and never come home to your wife & kids is something I experienced personally when one of my parents died on the job. However, I also have to worry about plans I have made myself and fake feelings on the internet to satisfy people would be worse then showing my true feelings of disappointment that the car isn't arriving on time...besides, who is whining on the thread? There is a big difference between showing disappointment and whining...if I were to say that Toyota sucks because of this or that I hate Scion then I think that would be whining

It's terrible to hear about this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are for Hiroshi and his family. One thing that struck me as unusual in the article was that Toyota has their own police force.

"Toyota police said there was a possibility that professional negligence had caused the fatal accident. They are continuing to investigate."
