So I installed the Angel Eyes about 4 days ago and now they aren't working anymore. One of them at least. I'm pretty sure I did everything correctly- didn't over bake the head lights, made sure all the wires were not pinched. Last night one of the halos stopped working, and upon inspecting the plugs, it started sparking and giving off a pretty nasty smell. Right now all but one of the halos works, and it's ____ing me off.

If anyone has installed these things, I'm talking about the black connection that connects the halos to the ballast. I'm very sure that there is something wrong with the connection on the halo side, since I cross tested them.

So....anyone also having these problems? I think that the wires that were provided were alittle....well.....weak. The connections were kinda amatuer. I'm probably going to have to remake all of the wiring.

Any suggestions?

lol welcome to the wonderful world of DDEs victems... actually idk how many of us there are. but mine died the first day i got them... then a ring broke. then i got new power inverters, 1 blew, another ring broke. got another ring, and just didnt feel like taking my headlights apart for literally the 3rd time. its just not worth it especially for how much money they are. but i hope what evers wrong with yours isnt as fustrating as mine.

yea mine looked good too. but at least you were lucky enough to get all 4 to work at once, and take decent pics. mine litterally died 3 hours after i installed them and all my connections were legit. w/e im over it lol

I found that if any kind of water gets near the connections that the DDe's start to screw up. maybe that has something to do with it?

In fact it was raining just before and after i installed them. I will definately silicon and seal the contact points for these guys.

Do you think that the halo is messed up indefinately? or do you think i can let them dry up and try it again?

i took my air compressor to the connectors and completely dried them out and they worked fine

More remarks from other people? I plan on installing the Umitza angel eyes but this thread is kinda scaring me. Are you two the standard deviation, or is this malfunction a pretty common thing?

I had that problem a few days ago.
I noticed the middle part of the black connector from the halos is starting to melt. Theres a hole in the middle of the connector now. I'll get some pics soon.

if i could go back to Dec (yea i ordered them then recieved them end of january) i would have never ordered them. because if had them for about 3 months, and never got them all to work together. and it wasnt because of my installation. the first time was, but when you recieve the package, there is NO warning that its not waterproof. and one of the rings was broken. then i got the new power inverters and waterproofed the crap outta them lol. then another ring broke (one that was installed previously and worked at 1 point in time), then a week later one of the new power inverters blew, and i gave up. too much of a headache. and now im gonna take these out and smoke my headlights to conver up the mess from removing the rings and glue :tap:

any time you mix water and electronics the results are never good.

with that being said i am an authorized Jlevi/Umnitza installer. i have installed countless DDE kits over past year and a half. you will get the BEST results if you take silicon glue and seal the seams of the ballast and get some heat shrink tube from radio shack and shrink the tube around the ballast connectors.

the water drainage in the TC i hate to say is not one of the best thought up of on the cars i worked on. so sealing the ballast is a MUST! as long as you take those steps to ensure they stay dry you wont have ANY problems. i have a umnitza/jlevi kit in my bmw and have had NO trouble since i bought them over a year ago.

I hate to be insulting anyone, but i paid alot of money for these things, and I'd expect them to be much better made than that.

What i mean is that these components are obviously going to be used inside the engine bay- it should have been waterproofed to begin with.

I made a wiring harness for my hids, and the wiring and heatshrink I used hasn't given me any problems. I guess it's my fault for ignoring the fact that the wires do look flimsy and needed waterproofing. BUT STILL!

yea i agree with you quikgw. the kit IMO (and apparently yours too) but this kit is crap. ESP. for the price.

Have you seen the LED underbody kits?

Anything electric needs to be waterproofed pretty dang well. I agree that they should do it from their location, but they don't, and it's a really easy fix.... it took me 3 ballasts to learn and never had a problem since... you could spray my ballasts with a hose and not have an issue....

Step 1 - Buy This...

Available at your local hardware store.... Dip the whole thing in the bottle, check for any "Openings" and if needed, dip again...

Fixed my problem right up.

I have had this prob, along with the broken rings and stuff, also. The wire connectors the kit comes with aren't the greatest, in redoing mine I got some good splices(like aircraft wiring quality, perks of my job) and put heat shrink over them, no more problems. You can get splices and heat shrink at RadioShack, just cut the ends of the wires and crimp them on.

has anyone had a ring light up half way, then turn on the car and its fine? only happened once, but i was just wondering.

so wait... you can dip the ballast in that and it wont fry it? if so, i may get my DDEs workin and then use this.... BUT! im really getting sick of taking my headlamps apart (i still got my replacement ring to put in)

The stuff you dip it in is super thick rubber... hasn't done anything to mine.

I've had my lights light up halfway... as the ballasts need some umph sometimes to get going and the alternator gives that extra kick.

the plasti dip is GREAT its a lil to thick to make its way far into the ballast and durable enough to withstand the elements.

ive used it plents of times on other parts that i wanted water proofed.

I'm going to get paint from home depot tomrorow, and i'll pick up one of those things too.

Question: when you get replacement rings, or ballasts, does umnitza charge you for the entire kit?

Neothin

nope, it's 15 bucks for a replacement ring, i dont know what the ballast replacement costs, i havent had to do that yet *knocks on wood*. I just used some silicone sealant around the edges of the ballast. it looks like a hack job, but i have them hidden up on the inside of the fender where you cant see them anyways, and they're waterproofed, so i cant complain.

You can also look for this stuff called "Liquid Electrical Tape" in black or clear, available at OSH. Comes in a round can with brush applicator. Not as thick as the other stuff mentioned here, but I think it is easier to work with. I would do multiple coats. The electronics on my paintball marker last longer since I started using this stuff.
