The slippage depended on people's driving habits. Some don't experience it. The warranty excludes the clutch because it is considered a wear item like brake pads. If the clutch self-destructed early, it would probably be a warranty repair. I am considering buying a TRD clutch just to hold it in case there is a problem in 5 years and 50K miles when the xB is no longer made. (However my Mazda clutch has lasted 150K miles.) The Scion dealer estimated that they would charge $750 in labor to install a clutch if I provided the parts. If/when the time comes, I would actually go to the good local import shop that I have used for many years, for a cheaper labor rate. dgHotLava 04-04-2006, 01:34 PM why warranty it??? you will get another clutch that slips. buy a better clutch and have a local mechanic put it in. no more worries. clutch 250. install about 350. p2filz 04-04-2006, 09:18 PM ya my friends miata has 137K miles and still has the original clutch also. whats up with that dmxsoulja3 04-06-2006, 09:01 PM Why in the world would you buy a clutch now? Just because toyota stops making them doesn't mean there wont be other clutch companies with clutches.. Exedy had a clutch for my 1987 Chrysler Conquest..I'm sure they will have one for an xB for a long time. dgHotLava 04-06-2006, 10:51 PM Why in the world would you buy a clutch now? The xB is rumored to end production this year or next. Pep Boys and NAPA are sure to have a clutch for the xB in 5 years, but who knows what low-bid supplier will make them. You can get an OEM for $230 or a TRD or equivalent for $275 now. What will they cost in 5 years. If you want a TRD clutch in 5 years, will it be hard to find or out of production? I often buy spare parts ahead of time, if I think they are going to be needed. dmxsoulja3 04-07-2006, 12:02 AM the TRD is the same clutch plate with a better pressure plate, if I was going to buy something for the long run i would get an ACT or something like that..but I guess I can see your point. dgHotLava 04-07-2006, 10:39 AM opps....too much happy hour. i was thinking that the clutch was not going to be made... we all know that were are getting a new xB in 2007. as for them not having parts in the future. i remember seeing that the makers need to supply parts for 20yrs. might take a little longer to get them in the later years... kkawana 04-07-2006, 10:44 AM ^^what she said.... (happy b'day btw) Car makers have to supply replacement parts for 10/20yrs (cant remember which) after production ends of a particular model.... tho... what those replacement parts cost in 10/20 yrs who knows.... i'm sure some1 (Tomas?? lol) could pull up/find the actual law and post it up..... (Tomas has a knack for that :P ) vintage42 04-08-2006, 06:09 PM ... Car makers have to supply replacement parts for 10/20yrs... Toyota will satisfy whatever the requirement is with an OEM clutch. But I will want a TRD clutch, which might not be available long after the xB is gone. |
