Default Extra Lighting for the Rear

Has anybody tried to install some LED in the headliner behind the rear seats to light it up with dome light. I'm considering getting some white led (unsure how many I'll need) and install them in the headliner to point down. Hopefully I can get some wide dispersion ones. I was going to get some LED holder to hold them in.

Default I did CCFLs...

I installed two 6" CCFLs in my xB's headliner pretty close to the rear hatch door. Got tons of light back there at night now! I didn't wire them up to the dome light (rather, they come on when any door is open), but it shouldn't be too difficult to hook them in to it. Just remember that the dome is negative-switched. You'll want to tap into the +12v wire in the dome, through an in-line fuse, then to a resistor, then to the LEDs, then back to the _other_ side of the dome light in order to complete the circuit.

Do you have any pic's? I am looking for something to do with 2 12'' cathode tubes?
I fugure that may be the place for them.

2 12" CCFLs is going to be a LOT of light. i have 6" ones going under my dash and they're more than bright enough.

I plan to pop a 4" on either side of the rear hatch linked to just a plain switch, which is easy to wire up. no need to have them on every time the door is open.

Yeah, I'd rather put them in the back if I can find some way to hide them.
I was really planning on sprucing up the motor and compartment later.
I'm kinda thinking about the led wheel well kit from "oznium" for Christmas also. My wife thinks that it may look kinda ricey though.

Would that make the accesory lights come on whenever the dome light is on?

There are two wires that run to the dome light. One gives it juice all the time, and the other works off of the door switch. Both wires run from the dome across to the drivers side in the headliner. Find the one that runs off the door switch, and tap into it. The dome light does not have a ground wire, it works off a body ground thru the screw that holds it in...You have to ground it elsewhere, but if you do it-your lights will come on and fade(depending on your lights) with the dome light.

See, the domelight door pin is a ground. I already tapped into it for my puddle lights, it is just a ground, and the lights only come on when the door is open. Thanks though.

Or you could try this....

I got it from a pick your part and installed it. Super easy.

Connected it to work just like the stock one.

Yep: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...235&highlight=
Personally I don't think you need 2 12" CCFLs - 2 6" CCFLs will give you lots of light all by themselves.

Nope. All that does is essentially put the CCFLs (or LEDs) in parallel with the dome light. So however the dome light is turned on, the CCFLs (or LEDs) will turn on too.

just remeber to use leds u have to use a resistor or wire the leds in a series of 4.

This would look great if you had say 4 LEDs flush mounted into the rear of the headliner.

The CCFL's are OK, but I wanted something that was more hidden until they were turned on. I figured some LEDs wired to the dome light and hidden in the headliner would be less noticable. I was planning on running the LEDs in series and of course put a resistor that will drop the voltage in front of them.
