Default Soon to be in Portland, OR

Hey all,

I am moving up to Portland at the end of May and wanted to get an idea of local shops and mechanics. I am big believer in keeping my money local, so I don't want to order stuff online. Any recommendations for an xB owner?

What kinda shops are you looking for? Tuner/parts shops or mechanics shops?

Both. I am not fond of going to dealers for automotive work. And as for parts, if I can do it myself, I might as well.

Well, an early welcome to the area. I met one of the Scion Society memebers a couple of weeks ago, you know any of them? I was in AZ with ITSFOOFER for the golf tournament, anyway, welcome to the pnw.

We DriveScions can probably halp you with most of your work. he is not a shop, but he knows what he is doing.

As for other shops, personally, I belive they are hard to find. Especially Scion related.

Welcome to the PNW, look forward to meeting you.

Speed Concept and Ground Zero are excellent stores that both stock Scion parts (at least for the tC, most likely for the xA/xB as well). All my mods were purchased/installed at Speed Concept - the staff is great and they're willing to make sure everything works right.

Thanks for all of the info. I found a web site for Ground Zero, but not for Speed Concept or We Drive Scions. Do they have sites?

I'm WeDriveScions... I do a ton of Modifications myself, so have picked up a ton of knowledge for both the xB and tC... as I have both

For parts, I got to speed concept occasionally, but service there isn't always super proffessional. Speed Concept doesn't have a web page... Torque Freaks is another good shop for installs and dyno tuning... They have some great toyota techs...

Do you have a website/address for Torque Freaks? I'd like to check them out too.

Another question: what is Oregon's rules about not having a front license plate? I've been able to get away with it down here in the bay area and I put in my dash when I park my car in san francisco. Does Portland have any nonsense like that?

I just keep mine in the passenger floor board and tell "the man" that it got ripped off in an automated car wash.

They'll get you in it if they want... we have a lot of the lame stop light and photo radar cameras, so they always want plates on your car....

It's the luck of the draw on who pulls you over really though.
