View Full Version : trd exhaust and other stuff?
speedrushTC 05-27-2004, 03:00 PM Just wanting to know. Is the TRD exhaust worth what it costs? Or should i wait for an aftermarket cat-back. I might get just because i can put it with the payments of the car and pay it off faster. But unsure. Also i want to get sponsored by some companies. So if anybody is looking for a TC to experment with. Give me a holla. :hint: :hint: TURBO's, NITROUS, BODY KITS.......ETC.
yhsu1 05-27-2004, 03:37 PM I want to know how many HP does the TRD exhasut put up.
speedrushTC 05-27-2004, 04:52 PM i have no idea as far hp goes for the TRD exhaust. I'm guessing not that much. I don't even think it's a full cat-back. It just be an axle back. In that case i'm guessing a 5-8 horses.
NEROAZUL 05-27-2004, 05:00 PM What car do you want the exhaust for? If its for the xB, I had it on my xB but switched to Blitz because TRD had poor quality, and the tip ended up melting the rear bumper.
speedrushTC 05-27-2004, 09:15 PM it would be for the TC. But snice that happen. I might go with an aftermarket on.
Rich_Manas 05-27-2004, 09:59 PM the exhaust looks exactly like the one i had on my celica which isn't even an axle back. trd said it got an additional 14 peak hp over stock but i think the tC might get more cause of the engine and stock exhaust set-up. if the tC only has 160hp stock vs 157 for the camry , where did the tC get the extra 3hp. i think the stock intake and exhaust are very restrictive. add less restrictive parts and people should see a lot of gains.
also, trd does make full catback system for certain cars, trucks and suvs.

how long did u have the exhaust on before your bumper started melting?

3 hp is not hard to come by. A slight tunning, gearing, a different sized belt, even turning off the A/C could do it. It would be hard for them to get the SAME hp as the Camry because of so many differences between the cars.
NEROAZUL 05-28-2004, 01:58 AM I had it for about 2 months before it started to melt and I tried to have it corrected at work but they could not do it.

Why wouldn't you have taken back to dealer/TRD for warranty work? Wouldn't this have been covered?

why didn't you quote everything i wrote regarding the 3hp difference?
3hp is nothing and that was my point if i didn't make it clear. the factory intake, header and exhaust on the tC should be very restrictive. with the right mods there should be a lot of power gains with less restrictive parts.
gains on the 2zz with injen cai and trd exhaust netted my car a 15-19whp gain from a 1.8l. with a 2.4l, gains could be a lot more than 8-10whp per mod. i can easily see 200hp at the crank with just i/h/e on the tC cause of the bigger engine.

if the location of the exhaust burnt the lip kit, it would be covered under warranty.
nwscionman 05-31-2004, 11:35 PM Apparently this is nothing new:

fearturtle44 05-31-2004, 11:45 PM I would hope since the "word" is out on the gasket deal, that current installs done by the port/TRD would have the new gasket installed!

scionracerxb 05-31-2004, 11:46 PM i had the gasket prob with mine too. i had the dealer fix it once, and it was coo for like 2 months, and it did it again, so i just took it to a reputable muffler shop, and did away with the whole clamp and gasket thing, and welded it straight on. its way better now, perfectly centered, and wont ever do that again

because its built on the avensis chasis not the camry so it probably has something to do with the tuning and weight...
