:( I have had my XB for only about 4 weeks and just tested my MPGs and was bummed and ____ed to only be getting 18.5 MPG. Thats worse than the Caravan I traded in. I have a standard transmission and am good about not running the RPM's too high. Also I am mostly driving alone without extra baggage. I do have the AIM cold air intake, but why would this device that only boosts the horsepower by 4% cost me 35% of my fuel efficantcy? Any help would be very much appreciated.

the only thing could be your calculation. take it to the dealer. you should be getting 26-29mpg

how often do u fill up? and how much do u drive a day? theres no way in hell ur car could be gettin that mileage being that new unless you have a leak in a fuel line or sumthin.

I have just started to have the same problem :evil: I'm going to see how this tank does and if the problem still ocours mine is going in.

Ummmmm.......you may want to check if people are sucking your gas and transferring it to their gas tanks. Since gas prices are super high, I wouldn't be surprised if someone was doing this. :lol:

I find that interesting considering that we had a IS300 that was getting horrible gas mileage but we had bought from CARMAX so we took it back and got a Nissan Maxima that has great gas mileage.... Maybe its a toyota thing

Although I have not calculated it yet, it seems like mine sux it down pretty fast as well.

I'll run it down low and figure it out next tank.

I think its b/c when I drive on the freeway, I do 75-80... this means the motor is turning around 4K.

Some follow-up to the responses, BTW thanks to all who responded.
Bad calculation? Well its a pretty simple calculation distance travelled since last tank fill-up divided by the number of gallons required to fill again.

Gas Leak? I don't smell or see any trace of this, but maybe it should be checked by a pro.

Lead Foot? Nope, for this test I rarely exceede 65mph and kept all low gear RPMs under 3000.

Gas theft? Come on...

Aftder reading about the wear-in period required before you get optimum mileage on another thread this might be a factor, but I have put 1800 miles on the engine and I did not read about anybody getting worse mileage than me.

I have two stock lavaboxes and average 29-32mpg. A few things you might look at tire compound, stickier tires will reduce mileage. Also tire pressure. Air filter clogged? are you in a dusty area. Different gas grades could make a difference. Someone else mentioned the e-brake. That can happen, cable to tight. Park on a slight incline and release the brake. Your car should roll freely without any drag. You could also have the wheel bearings checked, or jack your car and check yourself. Front brake calipers could be binding. Wheels should spin freely with minimal transmission drag in neutral. Did you buy some bad gas? Fuel filter could be clogged. Did you drive over a curb or parking lot block? Possible exhaust damage.

Just my thoughts

We're getting over 30MPG on our demo xB; thats with a mix of drivers that handle it like they are going to break it and others like they stole it. You may be getting gas thats either high in moisture content, high in alcohol content, or both. Either will decrease the amount of power produced per gallon, and thus mileage. Your air filter should net you a gain in mileage, not a reduction. I would have it looked at, and please keep us posted.

I posted on your other thread also, but if its not fuel related, then I suspect that either one or both of the oxygen sensors in your exhaust is either unplugged/disconnected, or defective. Should be easy to have the dealer check.

Maybe you are hammering the throttle to hear the cool sound the engine makes with the cold-air intake? Not trying to be a jerk, I know I did that on my CRX when I installed my AEM. Then after two quick fillups, I stopped. :)

Take it back. You're still under warranty. Have them do a diagnostic. There's no logical way you should be getting such low mileage unless you're dragging your feet along the way. Even with a lead foot, don't see how you could be getting such low mileage.
