I'm 21yrs old and have a pretty clean record. I'm just a little worried about insurance. Is the tc going to be considered a HATCHBACK(kind of low insurance) or a SPORTS CAR COUPE(high insurance). if any one has any ideas. pls let me know.-thanks

Obviously I don't know what you'll have to pay, but I priced the insurance on the tC with my agent (I'm 33 and married) at the same time I priced a 98 Boxter and there was about a $200 difference between the two.

I bet it will vary between companys like the xB. Some classify the xB as an SUV  which result in the rates being twice as much as if it were classified as a wagon.

unfortunately,

anyone under the age of 27 in Califoria will be paying premium rate...
Also, when there's less door involved ... 2 vs 4, insurance rate will be higher regardless of it's design. Although i can't quote any specific rate , your driving record in only one factor in considering the premium.

other factors include:
1) years of driving
2) gender (males pay more)
3) area of residence
4) vehicle
5) coverage amount
6) miles driven annually
7) etc...

but i can promise u that TC insurance rate will be higher than the current xA or xB rates.

I called my insurance carrier this week and she estimated with $1000 deductable my annual premium would be $606.

I got a quote from GEICO for $960 for six months (21 years old, fairly clean record, $500 deductable). This was about the same as the same coverage on a 2004 toyota solera. Hope that helps.

I'm actually gonna call my insurance company today and see what they say....that sounds like a good idea.

I quite often get really irritated with how the insurance companies try to prevent young males from driving. It's rediculous, they expect us all to drive Geo Metros or something, because everything else is outrageous.

I'm 23 with a clean record, so lets see what they quote me at......

I just called my insurance agent and got some numbers. This should give you some numbers to ball park your own rates. I am 19 and have no tickets, and no accidents. All of these are with a $500 deductable.

My current '93 Camry LE: $423 every 6 months
A New Camry LE: $1028 every 6 months
Civic 4 door EX: $1152 every 6 months
Civic 2 door EX: $1245 every 6 months
Scion tC: $997 every 6 months :D

Looks like it will be a good deal with insurance rates too.

Man thats a really decent rate. I was paying 235 a month for 2 years on a 94 Camry LE. What insurance company?

State Farm. But my Camry is also registred in Savannah, and has no collision coverage.

i guess the insurance rate is cheap out in Georgia... cuz i doubt anyone at the age of 19 will be able to get that kind of rate for a TC here in Cali.

I think one of the biggest variables in what your insurance costs is where you live. I know that here in Houston, everyone seems to pay a lot more, even for a fairly old car, than other people in a lot of areas of the US.

I'm 21, male in KS with State Farm Mutual and no accidents or tickets. My quote was $500/6mo after several discounts (good student, accident free, etc) for full coverage, high liability, $500 deductible. That's actually a bit less than I'm paying now for my '97 Accord.

I had a hard time getting quotes.. but I did a quote through Allstate.

Originally I was considering an 04 Solara Sport V6.. then changed my mind once I saw the tC was being released this month.

The quotes I got for the Solara SPort v6 and the Scion tC were identical.. they differed by about $10 for 6 months.

It doesn't say a lot for the tC seeing that the solara is a much more expensive car with a faster engine, but it at least gives me an idea..

Eh who cares, I'm 21 so I'm f'cked anyway.

when you guys post your insurance rates, can you please post what company also? I'm with 21st century and they dont' have the car in their system yet so can't say... :(

The only Web site I've found with the tC in their system is Allstate. They gave me a quote of $650/half year with $500 ded. after no accident/good student discount. 21y/o male. I think I read that they give you 10% off if you have another policy thru them.

Any other insurance Web sites with the tC yet?

How the hell do you guys get such low insurance? My father's been with Allstate over 10 years, but when it comes to a 19 year old male as a cosigner on a car, the price jumps through the roof. I've been driving for 4 years, no tickets, no accidents, and I'm a damn good driver if I may say so myself, we even get good student discount, etc. My mother pays close to nothing for her '02 Golf, my father even less for his '04 Explorer (and I mean DIRT cheap per month), but damn, 266 bucks a month for me, and it's even under my fathers name!

Wow. All of you guys have it great.

I'm 23 years old, no tickets, no accidents. $500 deductible, for the Scion TC, would cost me $5300 a year.

I guess that's the price you pay for living in New York City.

Holy ____. . . I just did some online quotes, and for me (18, one ticket) to have my own policy on a tC would be over $8000 a year. :( I need to call around.

wow, looks like I have to call around.

I'm currently trhough AAA Michigan and my payment is about $100/month for a V6 Camaro.

I checked AllState online for a Scion and it was over $1,000/6 months for it. Seems kinda high for me.

I'm 24, but will be 25 in August...so it should drop a bit by then

Ya know i called my insurance agent yesterday at Nationwide... he thought Scion was the type of car not the maker..... that just goes to show how many of those we have around here lol. I had to explain to him it was a SCION TC and said that well it was toyota who made em and then later i got a vmail sayin it'd be $200.00 for 6 mo on a 2005 Toyota!

I think they were sadly confused cuz i said full coverage and i have a '94 probe now and am payin $230 every 6 mo for only liability.. I'm interested in learning more about what everyone is paying.. I"m a girl by the way so mine will be lower

my sis is my insurance agent (nationwide too, ha). i had her run my rates and it came to 1617.60 every 6 mos. she said they don't have the tC in the computers yet so they'll have to run it under a different car. doing toyota might come up cheaper than a scion. she rated me using the xB which is considered an SUV. apparently insurance is more expensive for suvs so my rate will be a few hundred less per 6mos. but you gotta keep in mind, i'm a 20yr old w/one ticket still on record. it's obviously gonna be more expensive for me as opposed to a 21+ (25+ for a huge drop) w/a ticket. not to mention nationwide is a damn expensive insurance company for people under 25 sooo yeh =\

Hey this is my first post here but I thought I would write something in this thread, being that Im an insurance agent in SoCal, and many seem to live here. Anyway a few notes while reading this thread. Some of you have called Nationwide, just so you know they arent an insurance angency, they are a broker, which isnt a bad thing cuz you get a bigger selection of companies. But when you call a broker i wouldnt use "Full Coverage" cuz you wont get a quote on it. They will usually quote you on the state minimum and maybe on a 1000 deductible on your Comprehensive and Collision. Just make sure to ask them for the specific coverages you want. For example Liability at 15/30/5 and Comp + Collision at a 500 deductible. Full Coverage usually implies everything under the sun. Liability, Comp, Collision, Uninsured Motorist, Medical Pay, Towing, Rental. Most people dont need all that. Any.....I can go into more specifics if any would like but you should be getting a solid quote from companies in a month or so.

i've tried geico, AAA, progressive, all state, and a few others. my best quote was for 1350 for 6 months. worst one was like 3000 for 6 months. im 20, 1 minor speeding ticket. only 8 mph over. and one accident(sort of) my car was parked and some lady hit it. so not sure what i would consider that. so any company i should try to get a quote from?? thanks for those who reply

Hmm, I didn't realize that the xB is considered an SUV. My AAA agent quoted me about $1,800 for the xB, so maybe the tC will be right around there through them also...of course the tC will be a Sport Coupe i'm sure...

That depends on your Nationwide branch. Mine, for example, covers their own home, auto, and life. The only thing they are a broker for is health insurance, which goes through Fortis Insurance anyway.

Progressive just quoted me a $77 per 6 month increase over my 94 firebird, would be $850 every 6 months.

Since I finally got the VIN number, I am going to start checking around tomorrow...I don't think it should be very expensive though since the car has so many standard safety features. Only thing I am worried about is that I will be hit hard because of 1)my age (24), 2) I haven't had a car for a long time (almost 3 years), and 3) my credit rating. Still, I have never had a ticket and my job is pretty tame (help desk analyst) so I shouldn't appear like someone who would be a liability....have to see...
