No offense to those of you who own them, but I've always found the head units with the flip-up lcd screen a little...... well, ugly. It seems disconnected from the rest of the dashboard... so much so that you could just tape a $150 walmart portable DVD player to the top of the dash and it'd give you the same effect :oops: j/k

Anyways, are there currently any aftermarket double-din head units that feature a large LCD screen directly ON the head unit itself? Like the nav systems that would typically be an option with more expensive cars? Eclipse is a company which sells 2 such units, they can be found at www.eclipse-web.com, but I haven't been able to find a single retailer selling these units, and there is no pricing info on the website, so I'm led to believe that these are not out yet. Are there any head units like this that are currently available?

Well yeah, I'd prefer not to buy the eclipse since I know nothing of the brand either... I hope at least that head units like these become more popular in the future, I think its because double din units arn't as universally common as smaller units that makes companies not want to go there...

 

haven't really seen any and usdmbb would know, he is one of the stereo experts!

 

Kenwood makes a ddx version. Its very good. bit pricey though.

eclipse makes very durable high quality stuff. i have an old cd mp3 player tht's been bumped around( i move alot of equipment in my car) and it's still looking and working perfect. it also made my stock speakers sound a WHOLE lot better.

 

I have the kenwood ddx 7015 it great. If you want the Eclipse stuff DO NOT get it on line go to a dealer so it can be warantied if you have any problems they do have a high failure rate. On the other hand they are awsome...

 

No quality issues with my unit. I bought my unit at Audio Craftsmen. If some of you didn't know, eclipse make the radios for all toyota cars. The stock harness plugs directly into the AVN unit. The only thing i don't like with the AVN unit is that it is not XM ready, so i will have to buy the RF modulated xm external unit.
