Default tC owners opinions???

Hey guys and gals, whats up? Thanks in advance for any of your help/responses. Here's the deal, my girlfriend is in the market for a new ride....she has a few things in mind however the tC is definitely one of the top ones on the list. However, I have heard some rumblings about dash rattles, roof panel rattles/leaks and crap like that. I'd really appreciate your honest opinions and experiences in regard to how problematic the car can be, as well as how good of a car it can be. I know the motor is a tank cause it's the same thing that Toyota has been using in their Tacoma's for some time now. Thanks again for any advice.

On a side note....I do not own a Scion...I have a 04 350Z. I saw a bunch of AZ people at the NOPI show out at Firebird last month. I was there with my Z club. Some of you AZ people have some sick lookin tC's and xB's!

when i had the tc it developed a rattle in the rear hatch about 10 months into it. it didn't annoy me enough to bring it into the dealer. others have brought their car into the dealer and the rattles were fixed with foam tapes. i haven't heard of any leaking yet tho...

all the '06 models shouldnt have any of those problems anymore. this was an issue in the '05s because it was the first model year.

my friend has an 03 350z, and his car had more problems than any of the tCs that ive personally encountered. like the others said, it was usually early 05s that had the most trouble, as is the case with any first-year new-model car.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I greatly appreciate it....keep em coming! I just want to make sure she gets a good car is all! She currently has an 02 Chevy Cavalier and what a POS that thing is. Talk about a rattle trap and a half. She wants to get a coupe, but the Civic EX coupe with all the power toys is a tad too pricey for her as is just about every other coupe that is decent. The other stuff she can afford is just plain junk. Plus she really likes the tC.

In regard to the person that said his buddy has an 03 350Z with problems.....I agree. The 03's were the first model year of the 350Z and were plagued with issues. I know a guy that went through 4 trannys (all warrantied) before he gave up and sold it. My 04 has had a few minor issues...nothing major. However I do wish they made the interior out of better material....Nissan definitely skimped when it comes to that. But all in all a hella fun car to drive. I was actually lookin at the tC before I bought the Z but I decided I wanted a 2 seater before the time comes that I have kids and can't have one.

Anywho, thanks again for all your input guys and gals....I greatly appreciate it as wellas the friendly welcome I have received even though I don't own a Scion.

Actually, it's been the Camry's mill.
I have an early '06 tC with 2500 miles and the sunroof is starting to rattle. I am seeing a production split in my parts catalog for 05/2006 and many of the cars parts are new/updated. Maybe wait until after May.

I get a lot of attention when I drive around with my tC. Especially with my 18s. When people dont know what scion is, everytime they guess how much it is, they guess mid to high 20s.

Do you get a lot of people calling it a Sky-on too? That one always cracks me up.
I get the "I thought they only made that ugly box thing" response quite often, too.

True about the Camry....however it was also the same block that was used in the 95-04 Tacoma 2WD 4 cyl models. It's the same 2.4L 2RZFE 4 cyl block. It was just differently tuned in the Tacoma.

So sunroof rattles....hmmm. Does Scion have a TSB out for that that the dealership will cover?

There is one for 2005 tC's for the sunroof wind deflector (front panel) rattle, and one for '05 hatch lift rattles. Didn't see anything for 2006's, but rattles are covered for 3 years/36000 miles even if there isn't a TSB out for the specific problem.
I haven't had mine looked at yet.

Ive got 20k on my car now and the only issue it has is the hatch rattle when the car is still cold in the winter. I think its something up near the dome light but Im waiting til it warms up to go looking. After a few minutes it goes away anyways.

I have a rear rattle, but it's really not that big of a problem. That's the biggest problem I have had in 5000 miles, so I'm extremely happy with the tC.

Buy it. You shouldn't be worried with the mechanical issues as much as how you'll like the ride, feel, looks, etc. There's been no major mechanical issues with the car and every new car you buy will have problems and TSBs. But overall, I say the tC is a good buy.
