Gallery upload problems?
Just tried to upload a new (jpg) image to my gallery and got the following error:
The image uploaded just fine as my new avatar.

What page were you uploading from? Try clicking Profile at the top... then in the lower left, there's a box to upload pics to your gallery.

The error is telling me it's not a valid jpeg file and I know from running community websites with galleries that some gallery programs have problems with certain encoded jpeg files. But the same exact file uploaded just fine as my avatar.
The avatar upload and gallery upload should be both using the same image library. Looks like SL is using GD 1.1 or GD 2.0 I've had the problem before with another gallery I run but at the time we were using Imagemagick.
