I've been reading about people saying when their car got to "port". I assume their coming over from asia, but does that go for all xB's? i ordered mine through the dealership and he ordered it through scion.com, so does it still come from over there? Dealer said 6-8 weeks, in your expiriences is that accurate?

All xBs and xAs are made at the Takaoka Plant near Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture in Japan.
Listed as bB and iSt. Also notice that the site mentions Scion tC; made at the Tsutsumi Plant with close proximity to the Takaoka Plant.
http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/about_toyota/manufacturing/index.html

The port we are referring to is the USPort that handles Toyota vehicles. The cars are shipped from Japan to your specific Toyota US Port. Not sure about North Dakota but for Mid-Atlantic it is Newark, NJ. Not sure about the long lead time. It basicly means that the dealer is not allocated the type of vehicle you specified and will have to wait for next month's allocation. The dealer may also trade vehicles with other dealers if the latter met your specifications.

I feel your pain. If my dealer can't get one from another dealer I'll have to wait a month too.

Here is a timeline of my experience:
3/21: Put down deposit with dealer for an RS3. Dealer can only promise me that he would do his best to locate one or return my money.

3/25: Get call from dealer that his DX queen (the person at the dealer who does dealer exchanges, basically the person who gets the cars in) was able to get me one while it was still on the boat, due to arrive at port on 4/1. Guesstimation on having it in hand is 4/15.

4/1: Car arrives at port.

4/13: Car still listed as port status, but now have VIN assigned. New guesstimation date of 4/25 to have car in hand.

4/18: Call dealer to tell him to NOT attach any dealer badges/stickers or drill front bumper for front tags (no problem). While on phone he pulls up status and lo and behold it is now in Ground Status. He says it will be ready in about 2 days (or by the end of the week.)

It is not in my hands yet but I can almost smell it.

How long ago did you order it?
basically what im looking for is, since the dealer said 6-8 weeks, is that pretty much set then, or is it possible that it could come in sooner  Later? :flame:

Mine took 4 weeks. I gave the deposit late on Feb 15. Dealer said car was still on the ship, and had to arrive at West Coast port, be loaded on a train to Chicago, then be trucked here (Louisville, KY). Dealer called Mar 8 to say car was at the port and was expected here no later than Mar 17, which is when it did arrive.

My dealer told me it would be about 6 weeks. But then it came in 4 weeks. I think that is because all he knew is that the car was on a ship, but not how close the ship was to port, and because I ordered no accessories.

Your car could come sooner for the same reason, or if the dealer finds another identical car closer in the pipeline to your city but going to another dealer, and can trade one of his other allocated cars for it. It could come later if you ordered accessories that are going to be installed at the port facility.

The RS3.0 are a little different than the regular xB. They were all built about the same time period. They were sent to the US about the same time mid Feb. They were released as the port installed options were completed. So I put my money down on a RS3.0 at the end of Jan, They gave me one of the two they were allocated. They call at the end of Feb and stated that the xB was in the port. Delivery time was unknown. Called about 2 weeks later and said it was released from port. Got it on 3/7/06. About 6 weeks in total from when I placed the money down.

I just got the call. I go pick mine up at 5:00 this afternoon! This is the RS3, so basically one month from putting deposit down to picking up.
The only way I tracked mine was to call my dealer each day. He could tell me "due to arrive at port on such-and-such date", then "at port", then "on the truck" then "on the ground". If you want some really good info on the entire allocation process look here:

You cannot check yourself. The dealer has a computer tie-in that they use to track their cars. They first track by allocation - they know they are entitled to a MT TCM etc, but until it is landed in a port, they don't know the VIN. After that they can track by VIN. If you want a lot of updates, you have to tell the salesperson to call you at every point. He would have to remember to check on the car almost every day to keep up with its changes of location.

MiniCooper has a really neat system. If the dealer can't find the one you want, orders take 6-8 weeks. You are given an order number and a password to a website. At any moment you can get info, just like tracking a UPS package You can see when your car is scheduled to be produced and when it has been completed. Then you switch to its VIN for tracking. You can see when it is shipped, when it is due in port, when it arrives in port, when it goes on the truck, and where the truck is. A friend tracked the truck and met it at the dealer.

I guess i was lucky i got mine on the spot,

I could have had an MT TCM on the spot. But it had miles on it, was a dealer trade from a nearby city. I wanted no miles on minein order to be the first driver, so I waited a month for one that was on the boat. While I was waiting, among the two dealerships I watched, I saw many xBs that I could have had. Some had miles and some did not. But none were MT TCMs. I think most of the waits are by people who want a specific car with no miles.

damn, thats crazy that you guys had to wait so long. i guess i got lucky though. i walked in to the dealership and saw it coming off the truck. i asked and they said it wasnt sold yet, so i bought it. no wait time cuz it was already there. and with only 16 miles on it.

I just called the dealer yesterday and they told me that they don't have my car ready yet... It's weird though cause they told me each dealer in the area has about 6 of the xB RS3s. 3 in Manual and 3 in Automatic. One of the MT got sold and they have 1 more AT xB. So what they tell me is that the car is still in Indonesia. Indonesia!? What is it doing in the toyota Engine production manufaturing plant? All I wanted was for them to add Sway Bars, Strut Bar, Green Under Dash Illumination, Armrest, and Foglights. Why couldn't they just add those options to one of the other 2 that they still have?

Oh well, It looks like I'm going to have to wait like most of you guys did... 6+ months or so.

your dealer must be bsing u!!! I saw a pic about 2-3 months ago of all 2000 RS3s sitting in a lot at the port. I dont remeber the port i just remeber it was in the US. I think i saw the pic on yoursciontc.com but i cant really remeber. But I know that all the RS3s r in the states heck my dealer has 1 sitting on the lot.

Ok... my turn to vent! I ordered a SRP xB exactly one month ago to date from Doxon Toyota/Scion in Auburn WA. I still don't have it. It gets better... I promise.
Timeline:

April 28: deposit and they ordered it

May 4: It will be here in a week and a half

May 11: It will be here any day :nails:

May 12: We're expecting it to be at the port between may 15-18(I thought you said here any day) :blah:

May 24 (haha): I will have to call with out allocation person and find out...
May 24: The reason we have not seen it yet is because it was damaged, we are going to look tomorrow for another one for you... :nope:

As I am reading this thread, I get the call that says "it was damaged" :tap:
How ironic is that! The worst part is that I went to Doxon because my aunt knows the sales manager there, bought both their cars there, and lives right next door to him :eyebrow:

I ordered my RS on March 29. First I was told it would be in at the end of April, then that it was held up at Port. Finally I got a call that said it would be in May 25th. Then a call that it would be in by the end of May - FOR SURE. Two days later I was told - nope, not til somewhere between the 1st and 9th of June. So, we are at eight weeks and counting at this point.

Not too happy - and the fact that I have to bug my dealer for any information at all is irritating beyond belief!

K, I have been dealing with Chris Brader. He said that him and the sales manager would be looking into it today and that would call me today. I haven't heard from them yet but I am not surprised. Its too bad cause I think they are now going t ohave to trade for it. I was looking forward to having a fresh one without the worry of it the engine being broken in correctly... The wait continues....
