Default Anyone with unbolted Exhausts...

hey guys, have you noticed any SQUEALING from this mod?

my exhaust has been unbolted for a few months now and I just noticed this recently.. the squealing occurs either when im at a complete stop, or when I accelerate at low speeds (sometimes high speeds).. the squealing is temporary and it comes and goes. I don't know what's causing it to squeal.. maybe the springs that I put in between the pipes to gap it out needs some lube?

I know for a fact it's the exhaust because I went to the dealer to let them hear the squealing noise i'm talking about... and they said it's the exhaust. I went home after that, and bolted it back up.. started cruising and noticed no more sounds.

thanks in advance!

i planned on doing that.. but where I live.. the police is really strict about those kind of things.. if they ever catch me rollin without a muffler, i'd get pulld over no doubt.

is that turndown custom made? and also, is there a gap between it?

SquallLHeart, how does that sound, and what gains did you get from it?

I saw a vid on streetfire.net of someone who unbolted his axle-back and it sounded kind of raspy, loud, and obnoxious.

bump, squealing noise is still there..

while the car was turned off, i wiggled the stock axleback and it was squeaking.. maybe i need to lube up the hangers?

i dont know if it's the connection between the midpipe and the stock axleback with the springs in between them to gap it out.. or the hangers.. or maybe something else?

would it b safe at all to just remove the bolts and leave the axleback there? has anyone done this?

it sounds pretty okay.. at first it was really, really loud for me.. (i considered it "ricey loud" and was a little obnoxious at first) but then i got used to it. i've heard mustangs and other cars that have short-pipe/turndowns and are much more louder... but i mean.. i'll say it sounds better than most people expect.

has a low grumble to it, but at WOT you can really hear the cylinders firing... (raspy i guess?) but not extremely bad.

there was a dyno done with an unbolted exhaust posted awhile ago..

i believe it was 5 hp, 4 lbs torque that it added.

I unbolted and spaced it out with the springs, the springs are what made mine squeal when going over rough roads.

hey zero, i was thinking that's what makes it squeal also.. i went under the car and was able to rotate the springs when it's bolted completely.. do you think lubing it with wd40, or silicone spray would fix it? thanks

try removing the springs completely, and running just the bolts.

did you do that?

and is it even possible to just run the bolts without it ever coming loose?

well the other day I tried it without an exhaust. Final decision comes down to if its tolerable by my wife, and even though she said it sounds aggressive, it was simply too loud.

I didn't get a change to drive it without the exhaust, but it revved a little more freely.

yeah.. the loudness is definitely something you're gonna have to get used to... especially coming from the quiet stock axleback.

When you guys unbolted your exhausts, did you reset your ECU after? did it affect your mileage in any way? i'm just wondering cuz i'm starting to notice something..

When I unbolted mine for about 2 days, I thought it sounded terrible at WOT.. It sounds good at idle but anything over 2,000 RPMs is very loud and not good sounding.

I had mine unbolted and spaced out with the springs, like zer0 mentioned.

Resetting the ECU isn't necessary. In fact, it made me slower for a few weeks.

I'd only attemt going without an exhaust if i were otherwise bone stock. With a header, it sounds absolutley terrible without any muffler.

guys with the un bolted exhausts:

DO ME A FAVOR, get under your car and look up.. do you see all the wires that you are exposing to exhaust fumes.. when something goes wrong, it will NOT be covered by warranty
