A few fiberglass questions
I was wondering what color (or color code) paint people were using to match glassed pieces to the center console? I am building a piece to go around my head unit mounted in the storage area under the climate controls and was wondering what color to paint it. How many coats of paint do people recommend? I will be using an air compressor to paint with.
Also, If I paint one or two coats of resin on a small piece of speaker cloth that will serve as the boarder and then smooth it out with a layer of Bondo will that be enough?

ok as far as the paint code I am not sure I havent attempted to match it as of yet. . . . .but your glass questions. . . .if you use fleece instead it soaks in better and with a few layers of resin sets better if you can try to build it up with resin and use a DA sander to grind it flat it minimizes the use of bond makes things a lot less stressful trust me. . .I am actually starting tomorrow on a few fiberglass ideas inside my box so Ill keep everyone posted. . . if you ahve any other questions let me know I have some experience with glass I use it almost on a daily basis lol
As far as paint code
I have gone through all kinds of source for finding a paint code that matche the interior piece and no luck...
I don't think there is a paint code for it at all
The best bet is probably have a paint supplier to match the paint (But I don't think they can even do that without a code)
The finish is not just regular clearcoat you can find, and regular matt finish clearcoat will not match its finish either...
I would repaint everything to match it I were you

Couldn't you bring one of the pieces into walmart and let them scan it? They have a machine that will tell you the paint code if you like the color of something.
Well my fiber piece is done and primed and ready to be painted. But I am still stuck on getting a color match.
I actually brought the center dash into Home Depot and had them do that computer color match scan. The color was way off and the computer ended up thinking it was a very blueish gray. I must have looked at a zillion color swatches over the weekend. Anyway. The closest thing I have found to match is Martha Stewart "Lampblack", but it is by no means perfect. I'm going to keep looking around. I've seen some dash mods that people have up on the site, so I'd be great if you could share some knowledge here.

The paint code should be in your gas door.
I believe there is another post about paint codes and it lists them all.
You arent serious about getting house paint are you?
Sorry my bad....I mis-read your post about you wanting to match your center console.
What ive done in the past was just painted the whole piece instead of trying to match it up. Look into SEM they have colors similar to stock colors. I would try to stay away from house paint in a car, for some reason it doesnt belong.

flat black wrinkle paint is what i use on the interior pieces since everything in the interior has a texture, so it matches pretty close. you can't tell that it's off by a little unless you stare at it real close or something. the interior pieces in the car are really hard to find a match, i've tried bumper black paint from plastikote, flat black, semi-flat black, can't get anything to match it perfectly. the wrinkle paint "looks" like it matches the best because the wrinkles in the paint make it look more faded.

I actually had the paint mixed for me at a body shop.
I tried getting the center dash scanned from a color matching computer, but given the texture and finish I wasn't getting good matches.
Here is how it turned out.
