Default How do I clean up the mess after oil change?

I know this might sound stupid but how exactly do I clean up after the oil change. I know that I need to drop off used engine oil and oil filter at places like auto-zones. But do I throw away the oil drain pan or can I rinse it and clean it with water? I am not even sure if water would help since its oil but please advice if possible. Thanks.

I was going to give you a hard time with that post, but I read your sig and I like it, so I will be kind.

Do not worry about cleaning the oil pan that well....after all, you are just going to put more dirty oil in it in 3 months.

I just wipe down the top and any drizzle that gets down the sides with some paper towels (which go with the used oil/filter) so it doesnt make a mess in my storage area.

I take all of it (oil/filter/rags) to a quick lube shop about a block away and they take care of it.

Okay. Thanks for the advice and for letting me off softly.

I wasn’t aware that they also accept oily rags

They forgot about how to clean up oil on concrete floors. I use carb cleaner. Spray the oil residue with some and wipe with paper towels. Hardly can see afterward.
Also, get some 5 gallon cooking oil jugs from restaurants. The plastic ones that are inside cardboard boxes. They are great for storing used oil till you have enough to warrant a trip to the drop off place.

you can use kitty litter to clean up oil spills. kitty litter supposedly absorbs 80% of its weight

Kitty litter works too but, it's a lot of work scrubbing it in with your shoes and it leaves a powdery mess which needs to be swept up. Carb cleaner is squirt squirt and wipe. 3 seconds.
