Default CONFUSED about intakes..

from what i have read, the aem intake adds more hp to our cars than an injen intake.. but from recent posts about intakes, ppl say that the injen intake is better and gives us more response.. the aem adds +15hp/12ft-lbs tq. then injen intake +12hp/9ft-lbs tq. i dont know which to buy.. can you guys tell me the pros and cons of these intakes..

they all add about the same power, around 4-5whp. You arent going to notice the difference of about .5whp between intakes.

they are all about as good as each other. No intake really has any defects.

Its more logical to buy whichever intake you want more. Some people are loyal, and some people will swear that some intakes yield more power. Do you want to pay for the Injen label? It's really up to you. However, if intakes weren't labeled and all performed the same, im sure people would buy the cheapest one.

I heard that ZPI intakes give the whistling sound of a turbo on idle... Can anyone confirm that?

The K&N definitely has its defect. The mounting bracket breaks the mount point off the car. Has happened to many and happened to mine in about a month of use. I took it off once that broke and the rattling started. Since I already have it I plan to make a better mount (like K&N SHOULD have done).

Other than that, you wont really notice any performance increase either. It is there, but not enough to notice really. I could tell no difference at all going back and forth except MAYBE a small improvement on throttle response. They do sound nice and look great under the hood, but dont expect to notice the performance. Take away the noise and those that say they feel a big difference will lose that on the butt dyno I would get the AEM or injen, but I have heard of two I believe that had the same issue with the injen that many have had with the K&N. And you dont notice the break is there until you really look for it, or until it starts to rattle. It breaks the bracket ON the motormount rather than the one for the CAI.

Oh, and they all whistle, even the stock airbox whistles. Mine and every one I have heard have from the factory. The CAI makes it much louder though.

all the intakes are essencially the same powerwise, any of the intakes are going to have the broken mount issue. The vibrations and awkward mounting will cause that. It's a hit or miss. that "bov" sound is the whistle. when you toss an intake, SRI or CAI, the whistle becomes more common and louder. the TRD intake is rebranded AEM, so if warranty isnt a big question, the price might be.
next question

Warranty isnt lost with ANY intake. Unless they can prove it actually caused a problem

this is true, the modification has to be in the cause of the damage for warranty to void. But that would include damged MAF and possibly throttle body. I'm not a mechanic tho. I have the injen installed into mine, warranty obviously wasnt my concern there ....
