Ok i am new to all of this but.... why put a rear spoiler on a front wheel drive vechical. I understand that it is there to force the back end down , therfore getting more grip in the rear wheels. I just believe the huge wings look dumb, but that's just me. On a front wheel drive car witha a fwd engine you allready have plenty of weight on the wheels that actully move, or can you add a front spoiler/ or lip to increase the downward pressure. Sorry for spelling/grammar errors i just got out of the Hospital and attempting to learn how to type with just the left hand.

Most street driven cars rarely see the north side of 140 or 150 mph where the benefits of having a wing/spoiler will actually become functional.

For the most part wings and spoilers are for looks only. Bottom line you don’t need it, does it look cool, and yeah some of the time, does it add weight to the car, you bet. And that’s what makes me laugh when I see those ostentatious wings on cars.

Small lip type spoilers are nice but those tall unsightly spoilers are just ugly

spoilers are almost exclusively for looks these days.

I saw a newer model Eclipse WITHOUT a spoiler and I must say it looked odd. The angle of the rear window and the deck lid screams for something to break the lines...

Sorry, I'm still a little shaken that someone used the word "ostentatious" AND used it correctly...
 Dude must own a thesaurus or somethin...  j/k

Because the amount of lift on a vehicle at speed has nothing to do with what wheels are being driven.

I have also been told, that even on a FWD car, at 60 mph, the wing actually does help. Albeit very little, it prevents a little bit of oversteer. A good driver does not need one until that 120 mile marker, but it does help...statistic wise anyways. Never felt any difference except at high speeds, but that may just be me. Also, some "big" spoilers are actually functional. The STi actually had a little bit of handling problems without that big spoiler, but very (and I mean VERY) few spoilers out there actually help. But it is nice cosmetically...sometimes.
