Where do you hear there are new parts - but you don't know what they are?

there has been alot of talk of Scion expanding the line of parts. they offiacly annouced it at the NY Autoshow. if i remember correctly it will now have over 100 parts (compared to ~40). but i have not heard what they will be and i know more about the cars then my dealer so they will pretty much be useless.

Hehe... ya, I'm sure our dealer couldn't answer 1/3 of the questions I could give them on parts.

Strange though, I'm curious to see what they might have.

i have a o6 XB ordered. Its been at port over 3 weeks, and my dealer just called to let me know that ALL Xb's are being held at the port nationally. she told me that toyota is adding a "new" part, and all the cars are held up in port, till the part is shipped from Japan, and installed. Anyone know what this part is??? could this have something to do with the new parts mentioned in this thread??

thanx

Can anyone else corroborate this story, or is it a case of a dealer foul-up? It doesn't make sense to me that they would halt all deliveries to install an accessory. If in fact they are doing this, it would make more sense that there is a production defect, versus a new goody for your car.

Anyone in Portland want to go take a look?

i also was wondering if it might be a "dealer screw up"...... but my dealer has been completely open, and as far as i can tell honest with me up until this point. i am in no great rush to buy the car, i am willing to wait.
that's why i posted here, to see if anyone else has heard about this-
i do know from another local dealer, that the port was backed up terribly??.....

Sounds to me that the dealer is just stringing you along. Unless there is a recall, why would they tie up their inventory?

If you are talking about the Release Seriex xBs then you MIGHT be close to the truth. The RS xB is shipped to the US just like any other xB and the extras that make it special are added at the port. The RS3 xB doesn't come from Japan with the AV system, it is added here in the US. It comes painted green, that is about it. So every Release Scion is held longer at the port for the upgrades.

I have not heard of any delays on these parts that would cause the vehicles to NOT be shipped out -- it just takes a little longer to process each car since it gets more attention than a "normal" Scion.

I am running this by a friend that works at a port, though, to see if he can give me any more info.

I'm pretty sure one of our SL vendors has some parts that Scion picked up... Next time I see them, I'll have to ask..

Hey Derek... got your message

I just got home from working swing shift at the Portland port. I'm NOT an official word on anything from Toyota... but I can say we did process quite a few xBs tonight. Meaning... accessoriess were installed... price labels were applied... and they were shipped on out via truck and/or rail.

I did NOT see any of the envy greens processed. Maybe there is a parts shortage for those... I don't know? I'm off work for a minor surgery the next couple days. I should be back to work on Thursday. I'll check back on this thread on Friday and post an update with whatever I can find out... if nobody else beats me to it.

the car i ordered was a TCM manual, no add-ons. Got back with my dealer today, and she says.... all Xb's are being held. She told me as soon as she finds out what the part is, she will let me know. She also said this does not effect just my Xb, but ALL Xb's??!!
just thought i would pass it thru here, maybe time to find another dealer.......

OK... didn't get back to work until Monday. I see NO slowdown in xB processing. Appears ALL models are shipping... including the envy green.

just got off the phone with SCION customer service..... and they DID confirm a hold at the ports for Xb's. confirmation that my dealer was not jerking my chain, SCION said there was a part being shipped from japan, to be installed on all xb's. she also added that this had nothing to do with the hold on the envy greens..... this was a different situation. she could not clarify what that part was.... but she said she would get back to me on that. she said they have been backed up for over 3 weeks waiting on the part, its in, and being installed, and xb's are now, as of this week, being shipped. she added that mine is on a truck en route to me!!
i would LOVE to know what this "part" is!!!

What Scion # did you call?
I just got off the phone with Scion US corporate http://www.scion.com/contact/contact_us/

They said that they dont have inventory information available to them. She also said that if there was a large "technical service bulletin" like youre describing, they would hear about it. They havent heard anything.
She then referred me to my dealer's customer service rep, who does have inventory and allocation info. And according to them, my xB is en-route and due to arrive next week.
Where did you get that info? Im not calling BS on you, i just want the best info possible.

no where in any of my posts have i mentioned a "techical service bulletin". that is a completely different thing. call the 1866 number for scion, the main one. the scion rep. did some looking into the matter and called me back the following day and told me, YES there was a hold up at the port, waiting for a part for ALL xb's to come in from Japan. she had to CHECK on it, she did not know anything about it originally...... not hard to believe, these are basically telephone operators......
she did her homework, and got back to me with the answers. as i posted, she will find out what the part is/was, and get back to me, i will post when i hear from her.
why would i be making this up? what would be my incentive?
re-read the posts, and maybe that will help you.......
toyota has had a few glitches lately with some of their cars..... the new camry for one... i am just happy they are working on these things as they happen, and not letting it drag on, like for instance VW.....

Looks like we talked to the same people, the person you got was willing to dig a little deeper. Let us know what you find out.
Again, it wasnt my intention to say that you were making anything up. I just called the same people you did and got a different answer, and wanted to straighten it out.
Chill.
