Default New speakers? whats hot n not for Cars?

i know club systems very well, i use to work for a huge sound company in NY that did Every club from Studio 54, to The Tunnel.

When it comes to cars its very much different, and i want to know what i could use to get GREAT sound, but not kill my bank, im only intreasted in changing the 2 fronts and the 2 backs? Should i go infinity? or Bose?

They also need to be able to hold up To my Stock Deck, that i do not want to change, The front speakers were blown, and i dont want to have to deal with ____ty blown speakers again?

Any car sound geeks on here?

I have PolkAudio db6500 comps and 650 2-ways and love them. A few others on here have these and they'll agree with me that they sound great. Wont hurt the bank either @ $200. Although since your not looking to change HU and prob not AMP, then you wont really get the benefit from great speakers. They will sound good but not to there full potential.

I also had the Alpine S-series comps in my old car and those sounded good running only off my Alpine HU. Do you have sub? Because those Alpines really had alot of bass for 6.5" speakers

And by no means am I an audio expert. Just giving you my reviews for speakers I have/had in the past. Maybe since you prob dont want to Amp, you could get some cheaper speakers if you dont want to spend too much money. The place that consistently has the lowest prices that Ive seen is www.onlinecarstereo.com. Im pretty sure you can pick up those Alpine for like $120-130. Anyways, hope this helps a little.

An amp doents really mean LOUD sound. Even getting a small amp and a middle of the road speakers will benifit you well. With an amp you will get the full sound potential of the speaker. You will typically get better bass response as well. And if you blow your factory speakers then youll likely blow your aftermarket speakers since they will be fairly under powered.

I have the alpine type X speakers and they have a very nice, tight sound. and they have great low end resopnse. They are a little pricey but i got mine off ebay for around $200.

Your best bet is to go where you can listen to them. (Local stereo shop, Circuit City, etc.) That's what I did to get an idea of what I'm looking for. I don't want to spend more than $150 each (front and rear). So far, I have looked at...

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FuDXWXQ...fp&I=1086012SI
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FuDXWXQ...650&i=107DB650
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Eclip...oductDetail.do

So far, the Eclipses have the nod. Its a tough choice between the Polks and Infinitys. They are all very good speakers to me. One of the factors that has me looking at these 3 speakers is how much I'm in my car. I'm in it for only a short time. So I don't need the car stereo to be as sophisticated as my home stereo. I don't need componet speaker set-ups. I really don't need an amp. I'm not trying to win any stereo competitions. I just want something that sounds good. (I didn't get the nickname "The Frugal Modder" for nothing! ) With a little research, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for for the price you want. Good luck.

BTW-I hope this post doesn't offend anyone with a very nice set-up! I was just referring to my needs and how much I'm in my tC.

^^^ agreed.... I'm not in my car very much, but when I am, I want to have great sounding music... I want people (even the ones who don't know anything about car audio) to get in my car and say "dang, that sounds good. Clear and comfortable(balanced)"

Im looking to dome something a little unique. Im going to try to install a 4th pair of speakers (6x9)'s in the rear of the tc.

My options are to either made a 8=======8 Setup that goes in the trunk so that it projects sound well or to do a 8=8 thats angled slightly.

I had 6x9's in my Toyo Camry 92 and a JVC hu and I LOVED the amount of bass i got. Especially since they were 3 ways I got a good range of sound with my bass.

I honestly couldnt ever see my self getting big ol space hogging subs unless i had uber $$$$.

If I can do what I want to, Ill have a pair of 6x9's power by an amp and itll give all the bass I want without taking up space. Plus the custom box i make will not have to be mounted reallllly well, I can velcro it down to the carpet, and add terminals to the box so I can easily unplug and slide it over, switch off the amp and tadah full cargo space.

Interesting thread. I like the polk db's great for the price, I had them in my tundra. I don't think you need rear speakers, you really don't hear them, and they just distract your ears IMHO. If you do have rear speakers I would suggest a HU with time alignment. Since you don't want a new HU, and you want to keep it simple, I would get a LOC and hook up a nice 2 Channel amp and stash it under the seat, and get a nice set of components. I was originally was going to go with ED's but i heard a set and they weren't to my liking, so I am taking a gamble with some Rainbow SLC's. It really doesn't matter which set you get, all mentioned in this forum except the infinity and bose will provide a tremendous improvement over stock. If you are worried about steering wheel controls with replacing your head unit, you can get an eclipse deck and the controls will still work. Then you have so many more options to what you can do with your system, and it will sound better too.
