to me that sounds pretty major...im not to sure what a block is cuz im a car moron but that sounds to be almost a new engine

Yup, it is fairly major - it's the largest chunk of metal in the engine compartment.

Depreciate the car? Shouldn't do that at all.

I had to have a new short block put in my xb . had the oil changed at the dealer
the tech forgot to tighten the drain plug back up. after driving 30 miles the oil light came on to late. fried the #1 crank bearing. a week later and a new block and no trouble for over a year now. i now change the oil myself.

and you didnt ask for a new vehicle? thats just ridulous - its their fault and they are lowering the value of your car by messing up...not necessarily a new vehicle but some compensation might be nice

I dont see how getting a new block would depreciate the value of your car. Its like getting a brand spanking new engine.... well the core of it anyways.

Ask to keep the stock block. Theres probably no way they will let you keep it, but its worth a shot.

new block actually makes you car more valuable. I don't know how many miles or how old your car is but those miles and time are practicly erased and you start anew with your engine.

The Toyota warranty will request the block back and send it to where ever they put the engine together at in Japan...

A new block doesn't raise the value of your vehicle cause the odometer mileage stays the same...

A new block will not raise or lower the value of your vehicle. However many people would see it as a selling feature. If the body of your car has say 100k miles and your engine has 3k miles then you may be able to get more for it and if not it may sell easier. This is just an example. At the honda dealership i worked at we had a customer blow the engine and tranny in an s2000 with 17k miles on it. When we sold the car to a new customer we let them know it had a brand new engine and transmission. Needless to say they were very happy. They basically got a new car for the same price as used.

The value is mostly to the owner but the reciept and milage on it makes it more valuable. Which is more valuable a car with 50000 mis and a worn clutch or a car with 50000 mis and a new clutch

No way in hell is toyota going to give someone a new car because of oil burning. Thats just insane. thats what a warranty was designed for, just incase something goes wrong. And no, its not going to depreciate the value of your car. It does suck that your car has to be at toyota for the time they fix it, but as far as compensation? Toyoya usually gives you a rent a car for the time being. Just ask, i know my dealer does.
