Default Aftermarket Brake Pad Squeeking

I was looking to buy some new brake pads for my tC.. I don't need new rotors yet, just pads.

I had alot of problems with odd sounds with my last car unless I put ceramic pads on it.. (it was an '02 eclipse).. It would make all types of horrible sounds when the pads were cold. Once I put the ceramic pads on, I had no problems.

I was wondering if anyone has any problems with any aftermarket pads?

Right now my stock pads don't make any noise at all, so I don't want that to change.

Does anyone have any good pads they would recommend? If so, where did you order them?

Do your pads need to be changed?

I'd rather change them now with 20k miles on the car..

If not they will wear down and might cause damage to the rotor.

Unless you are heavy footed, stop frequently, or drive with two feet, I would recommend having them checked out before replacing the pads. Putting brakes on at 20K sounds really early. Only reason I changed mine out was to replace the stock with ceramics. . . I wanted to try out a set.

20k is not early for brakes
avg. mileage car i do brakes on here at the dealer is 15-20k
with this stop/go traffic it takes a tole, yes you can go WAY longer on first set of pads, but it all depends on how you drive, conditions you drive in,amount of weight you carry, etc.

with aftermarket pads you gotta be careful what you choose, alot of them are noisy and can't do anything about that.
i upgraded my rotors and slapped hawk pads on, which i think work awesome, no noise at all. i have also heard good things of Axxis Ultimates as well

i rec. to stay away from EBC pads, not a good choice

A slotted rotor has grooves machined into the rotor face to increase the bite of the brakes and to celan the brake pad surface to reduce high temperature glazing of the pads...

The are literally thousands of brake pad compunds out there for a variety of applications but there are some limitations for the tC front calipers. For a low dust, low noise pad that improves performance over stock, the Hawk HPS probably the best choice. For something with much more bite although dusty the Axxis Ultimate is a great choice and is essentially the highest performance street pad available. There are a few more options but if you are looking for increased performance over OEM pads, these 2 compounds should be on your short list.

Have you heard of any type of squeeking problems with either of these pads and stock rotors?

I don't really care about the brake dust, I just want something nice and quiet.

Any street pad will be quiet as long as it is well bed-in. For the most part they are all quiet although the Axxis Ultimate has been known to have some reports of noise. More often than not they are reported to be very quiet.

bed-in istructions available here:

Why? When someone states something such as that, I really wish they'd provide their rationale, rather than simply leaving people to wonder.

I disagree, EBC "green" are on my other current car, and I like 'em a lot, also had them on a previous vehicle, no issues. I'll likely try a set on my tC when the time comes, and feel they'll make a big improvement over stock, shouldn't require as much pedal effort since EBC will grip much better.

If the braking isn't smooth you may need new rotors..

Where did you find them cheaper? tirerack usually has pretty good prices.
