So I bought one of those aftermarket shift knobs from ebay awhile back. It uses 3 retarded set screws that routinely come loose. I am thinking of options to actually have the knob thread over the shifter. Has anyone done something like this? Bringing it to a machine shop crossed my mind, but that would be way too much for a knob that costs only 25 bucks. Only reason I'm even entertaining this thought is because I like how it goes with the car (real silver CF ball). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

well the thing is the knob is one of the universal pos that isn't internally threaded. It comed with a plastic sleeve that fits over the threaded portion of the shifter, then the knob slides over this and is held in place with three set screws which I have to retighten everyday. I suppose what I'm looking for is a way that I could actually thread the knob onto the shifter like the oem one. It's alot harder than it sounds since the threaded shaft is smaller than the hole in the shift knob, so tapping it is out of the question.
try using plummers tape on the threads of the 3 small screws... it should hold it in place... i have the same type of shift knob but mine has not loosened yet...

you can try using loctite one the set screws but you will not get it back off if you use the red i think. the blue will allow you to remove it (with alot of force) later.

thanks for the feedback. I think i'lll try some of these. I noticed that they have self locking set screws on www.mcmaster.com , that use nylon inserts. If it doesn't work out too well then I may order some of these with the right thread.
