my check engine came on the other day, and ive heard most of the time on the Xa's its just a charcole canister. i have an 04. anyone else have the same problem? let me know. and if its not the canister, what did u have wrong?

You do know that the check engine light can come on for many reasons other than a charcoal canister...

Go to your local dealership have have them run a quick CEL check. That's the best thing you can do now to figure out the problem.

maybe if you explained to us more about your car, we would be able to help. How many miles? any improper maintence or problems? Anything that would lead you to think there is a problem? Let us know

on some cars you can force it to throw the code without a reader. My old chrysler could do this if you turned the key in the right sequence. I don't know if the scion can do this but it might be worth googling or seeing if someone knows.

First thing I'd check is your gas cap. A check engine light will come on if your gas cap is not on tight. After that, pull the code and look for what it's linked to. That's the quickest diagnosis, and you don't necessarily have to take it to the dealer...there's a code reader sitting in my garage and you may know someone who has one, and some auto parts stores have them.

my light came on when I ran the gas tank too low. I am still waiting fore it to go out. Does anyone know how long or have experienced this before?

try unhooking your positive cable on your battery for a couple of minutes, this should reset the CEL.

yea, that just resets ur cars computer. that will make it go off.
