the oil catch can fits in the breather line from pcv to intake. it catches the oil fumes, collects them, turns them into oil sludge in the can. it keeps the oil from a) fouling the maf sensor,b)sending oil into tb to help keep it clean

this is a simplified explanation.

if it's full.. you dispose of it as oily waste (which i would go to autozone or something for that)

I'm glad someone hit this topic. the question I have is can I remove the pvc line going from my Injen short ram to the engine head, cap it off at the intake and just put a filter or something on the engine head?

the pvc line is getting in the way of a fuse panel I am mounting.

b just get a longer hose and use the filter that came with the SRI, that way you can just move the hose out of the way of your fuse panel.

the fuse panel is pretty close to the intake, so the tube will probablly be bent at a sharp angle. the Tsunami battery I put in is lower than the stock battery so the fuse panel will be close to the intake.

I was thinking of getting one of those mini K&N filters and put it on the engine head.

The catch can is there so no oil goes to waste. You dont want to waste it man. Don't you watch TV? The president even said we are all addicts. and oil is our drug, baby.
Don't dump that thing out. You have any idea of the street value of one catch can full?!! WHooo! Liquid gold, BABY!!!!!

Actually, if you cap off the intake port and install a crankcase vent filter on the PCV line that will work...but...our DOT regs do not allow venting of crankcase gas to the atmosphere, it must be recycled into the intake., so...technically...it is illegal. This is part of our emissions system. One other thing, the filter will get oily and make a mess around the area wherever you put it due to the nature of the gas coming through the filter. Can't say someone didn't tell you. Good luck!

part a is incorrect.

the vent line joins the intake past the MAF...so it would never foul it up.

Depends on your intake....Stock, yes that's true. Injen, no it will foul up.

Injen and K&N DID goof! Very poor design. I don't think an oil catch can is really good for anything. They are made for racecars to keep the track clean. But of course if racecars use them, then by the communitive property, our Xbs will benifit immensely from their install! By all means!

for those that know, part a is not correct all the time. so that means it is incorrect.
K&N is correct...(at lest for the xA)

the MAF is before the vent line....
